The conversations over the two-day Summit were spread across four sessions.  Brief summaries from each session are below.  The full Summit summary can be viewed here.

  • Operational knowledge-sharing efforts across UC3 campuses have provided value.

  • Resources are primarily being used on campus-level activity rather than network-wide activity.

  • Comparative case studies may be a helpful tool leveraging campus-scale activity.

Session Two:
Bridging Academic Research and Operational Excellence

  • Leveraging relationships at a community level, for example: the Midwest Climate Collaborative.

  • There are limited resources available for collaboration on interdisciplinary teams.

  • Focusing on community bridging as part of the goals in the Strategic Plan.

Session Three:
Progress Towards Strategic Plan Goals in 2022-23

  • Actions to prioritize on the campus level include focusing on student-centered actions and encouraging student involvement in climate leadership.

  • On the community level, actions to prioritize are replicating cross-regional collaboration like the Midwest Climate Collaborative.
    • Expand into collaboration with Canadian and Mexican universities
  • On the global level, actions to prioritize include using COP27 as an opportunity for global collaboration.

Session Four:
Resourcing to Support Priority Actions

  • Major resource categories include: social and human capital; political capital; institutional capital; and financial resources.

  • One idea to pursue with present funding, is to embed justice and equity into the UC3 Strategic Plan.

  • With expanded funding, another idea to pursue, is to create a three-country trans-disciplinary research project.
