Prayer Teaching

Prayer Walking

Sara Jukes

Prayer walking is a great way to pray for our local communities and streets. It is where we walk through local streets, communities and neighbourhoods to pray for the area and the people.

Walking, I believe, is part of our basic existence; it is interwoven throughout the whole Bible.

  • Genesis 3:8 - “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…”
  • Genesis 5:22 “Enoch walked with God…”
  • Genesis 12-25 Abraham walked the whole of the land God promised Israel in preparation
  • Deuteronomy 11:24 - “Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours…”
  • Joshua 1:3 - “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.”
  • Isaiah 20:3 - Isaiah walked naked and barefoot for three years as a prophetic sign.
  • Hosea 11:3 - “I taught Ephraim to walk…”
  • Galatians 5:16 - “Walk in the Spirit…”

Praying for and walking our neighbourhoods enlarges our hearts for the people and the region; therefore, enlarging our vision for mission and evangelism.

Jesus spent a lot of time walking. I believe there is an importance and significance to walking through your local area and the area you are ministering to. Prayer walking is also a dynamic way to plough the ground for evangelism and take Jesus’ light into your area.

Matthew 5:14-16 says,

"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before all men, that they may see your good works and glory your Father in heaven."

Consider joining us for our Prayer Walk on Tuesday 2nd June (7:00pm) or take a walk around your local area and pray.

Added Extras

Things to pray into:

Marriages, families, parents, children, divorce and separation, violence, child abuse, young people, schools, good education, elderly, jobs, drug and alcohol abuse, crime, prospects for the future, homelessness, one-parent families, stress, poverty, health, apathy, and loneliness.

Practicalities of Prayer Walking:

  • Consider where is safe for you to pray
  • Be sensitive, polite and sensible
  • Walk with other people
  • Pray as you walk. Don’t keep stopping and praying over certain areas and buildings
  • Stick to your agreed route
  • If anyone asks what you are doing, say where you are from and that you're praying in the local area. Ask if they have any prayer requests
  • Either pray in your head or loud enough for those with you to hear only.
