Climate Change Scenarios for First Nations in BC: Projections, Data and ToolsIn recent years, First Nations in BC have not only been impacted by and responded to climate-related disasters; Nations have shown true climate leadership. The BC Assembly of First Nations and the First Nations Emergency Services Society of BC have designed this Webinar and Virtual Workshop series to create space for First Nations in BC to learn, discuss and utilize climate projections, data, and tools for climate action and decision-making. FNHA's Our Community, Our Water GrantWater is an integral part of life, community and wellbeing. To help protect and celebrate the importance of water, and particularly the drinking water in your community, the FNHA Drinking Water Safety Program invites you to submit a proposal to host an educational community water awareness event or activity. Indigenous Public Health Summer Institute 2023The Indigenous Public Health Training Institutes equips Indigenous community members and scholars with the necessary skills to address public health issues in Indigenous communities. One-week intensive courses are offered toward the completion of the Graduate Certificate or Certificate (non-credit) in Indigenous Public Health, or courses can be taken individually. Applications are now open. Province Doubles Funding to Move First Nations Off DieselPremier David Eby has announced the doubling of a clean energy fund designed to help remote First Nations communities get off diesel power, or at least reduce its use. The program will be extended by another three years with $30 million in additional funding. He made the announcement at the First Nations Major Projects Coalition conference in Vancouver. Indigenous Zero Waste Technical Advisory Group (IZWTAG)IZWTAG is an Indigenous run non-profit society looking to make a difference and look after the land through effective zero waste solutions. Federal funding is available through Indigenous Services Canada for a range of projects including development of community waste management systems, training and education, and ongoing waste management operations. First Nations Drinking Water CompensationIf you lived on a First Nation that had a long-term drinking water advisory for more than a year, you may be eligible for compensation. This is an $8-billion settlement that includes compensation and commitments to fund construction, operation and maintenance needed to provide regular access to safe drinking water. The deadline to submit claims has been extended to March 7, 2024. Healthy Communities Grants Now OpenThe 2023 PlanH Healthy Communities Grants are now open for submissions. The grants, administered by BC Healthy Communities, are offered across two funding streams: Community Connectedness and Healthy Public Policy. The application closing date has been extended to May 15. Indigenous Services Canada Circuit Rider Training ProgramTrained water and wastewater system operators are key in helping First Nation communities to reduce and prevent risks to water and wastewater systems and to ensure safe drinking water. Indigenous Services Canada's regional offices provide funding to organizations to maintain a roster of qualified experts who are available to support First Nation operators through the Circuit Rider Training Program.
