JUL 15, 2024 — A longstanding SCCA® partner, RACER is s well known magazine that covers everything you need to know about professional racing, as well as RACER.com, which brings you the news as it happens. But several years ago, RACER brought another publication into the fold, adding a vintage element to the mix. That publication is Vintage Motorsport, and now SCCA members can subscribe at a discounted rate.

Known as the Journal of Motor Racing History, Vintage Motorsport began in 1982 and today offers a mixture of in-depth features on drivers, teams, races, and more, spanning all disciplines of motorsport history and modern vintage/historic racing, as well as the current culture surrounding motorsports history – brought to you with the same quality you’ve come to expect from RACER.

Spec MX-5 Road Racing Engines Just Got Even Better

JUL 19, 2024 — Since the Spec MX-5 class entered National SCCA® Road Racing competition earlier this year, the class has produced intense action in ever-growing fields. In fact, U.S. Majors Tour participation data shows that the class is solidly top three, beaten only by Spec Miata and Spec Racer® Ford Gen3. It’s likely no mistake that these well-subscribed-to classes are all spec, as it allows drivers to work on race craft over tuning. To that end, Mazda Motorsports has announced that it will be expanding its relationship with Roush Performance – it’s engine partner for Spec MX-5 – ensuring continued tight controls on the 2.0L MX-5 engines.

This partnership, Mazda Motorsports explains, will involve a dedicated room where the Roush Performance team will perform engine assembly, with each engine undergoing dyno and leak assessments before being shipped to racers.

Registration for the '24 RallyCross Championship is About to Begin

JUL 18, 2024 — The RallyCross National Championship – the annual title event where RallyCrossers from across the nation gather to discover who is the best of the best – is headed to Hollytree Off Road Park in Hollytree, AL, on Oct. 17-20, 2024, and you’re invited to go. But if you want to slide your way to fun at this event, you first need to register – and if you want to register, there are dates you need to know.

While this year’s RallyCross Nats will be the first SCCA National Championship event held at the Hollytree site, it’s far from Hollytree Off Road Park’s first rodeo. Tennessee Valley Region hosts its RallyCrosses on the expansive site, and the location will also play host to the Southern Sweet Tea Classic RallyCross National Tour on Aug. 10-11, 2024 – this event is, in many ways, a preview of what’s to come in October.

4 Things You Can Learn from Professional Driving Experiences

JUN 27, 2024 — I’ve been having #funwithcars with the SCCA® for more than 30 years, and during that time, I’ve never met a single person in the Club who considered themselves a bad driver. On the contrary, from road courses to rallies to autocross and RallyCross, everyone considers themselves an excellent driver. Personally, as an egomaniac racecar driver, I put myself in the “excellent driver” category, too. My wife, meanwhile, strongly disagrees. Maybe there’s room for improvement after all.

The fact is, regardless of how good we think we are, we can improve. Even at the Formula 1 level, nobody knows everything about racing – they have coaches for everything. Racing is an extremely dynamic and complex sport, trust me when I say that yes, even us “excellent drivers” in the SCCA have room to become even more excellent.
