Whilst it remains a huge feat, there’s still many areas to permeate, but we are so proud of the progress made and it's all thanks to you - our members. From providing bespoke educational content for learning initiatives to representing at more nursing, GP and other healthcare conferences nationally, we have opened many more channels of communication this year and the results are evident! In the last month, we were honoured to get the opportunity to co-host a prevention and lifestyle medicine session with Regional Director, GP & Prevention lead, Dr Clare Nieland. Clare was successful in blocking out some protected learning time within her CCG (Slough, Bracknell & WAM) with the sole focus on educating both the clinical and non-clinical teams on lifestyle medicine, and the role it can play in managing, reversing and preventing chronic disease. We were so grateful, as always, for the contributions from Dr’s Clare Nieland herself, Alex Maxwell, Sheena Fraser, Reeta Karamchandani, and Adam Smith, as well as Alicja Wypasek and Alejandra McCall who all stepped forward to support. The information shared was so valuable to drive awareness on both how health professionals can use lifestyle medicine in their practice, and also, going a long way to empower individuals, as to how to make small changes in their own lives, creating sustainable healthy habits! If you’d like to see more, where possible, the recordings will be updated to member resources by the end of the month. Another May initiative saw Our Chairman Dr Rob Lawson and Regional/Social Prescribing Director Dr Alex Maxwell spending some quality time with “new to practice fellows”. Facilitating a 3 part session introducing the concepts of lifestyle medicine and how to implement this in practice and introduce to patients. It was a great opportunity to ensure the influence lifestyle changes can make in the management, reversal and prevention of chronic disease, is included in their future practice. Emma Mulligan, Head of Operations, has also had some great engagement with our partner Undergrad Lifestyle Medicine Societies to ensure collaboration and support is given to our future health professionals. "I was inspired by their leadership, drive and determination to create healthier societies, empowering patients with the education to make the much needed changes, yet so humbled by the vulnerability in seeking insight, hope and guidance from our experience lifestyle medicine practitioners" Emma shared. If you have any training requirements or can create opportunities like the above for BSLM to host a similar type of session, or contribute to one yourself, please do reach out to office@bslm.org.uk Lifestyle Medicinein FocusChronic pain: The 'unbearable condition affecting one in fourA survey of over 4000 adults (16-75) suggests a quarter of people in the UK are living with chronic pain, a BBC article reports.
