Welcome to the September edition of the Salamanca Market stallholder news ![]() Hi everyone, Welcome to the September edition of the stallholder newsletter. Spring has definitely arrived, with blossom on the trees, some very unpredictable weather and a general feeling of optimism, that as the days get longer the market gets busier. Thank you to all stallholders for your understanding and support when we needed to make the difficult call to close the market a few weeks back. As was widely reported, this was only the second time that the market had been cancelled in recent history. Robert Matson - Acting Manager City Welcome Above The warehouses on Salamanca Place. New look stallholder numbers ![]() We have just printed a complete new set of stallholder numbers and all stallholders will be able to collect their new number sign from the information booth from next Saturday 28 September. They are required to be displayed prominently on your stall at the front and top of your stall (facing the aisle). When you collect them you will also receive a flyer that will show you exactly how and where to hang them. Display your number at all times! It is important to display your number on your stall as it helps people find you. Your stall number is referred to on the website, in social media posts, on the market map and by the volunteers who often help people find you on the ground. Is there a cost involved? Your number is free of charge and is being paid for out of your marketing levy. This is a one-off benefit and if you lose your number you will need to purchase another one at your own cost. Do casuals get a number? Yes, all of the casuals will get a blank number sign. They will need to purchase a chalk pen from a stationary shop and write their number on their sign each time. These ensure that when you write your number it is waterproof, but can easily be removed with a damp cloth. Cruise ship arrivals ![]() The cruise ship season is fast approaching and below is a list of the cruise ships that are scheduled to arrive on a Saturday. ![]() To see the full list of cruise ships due to arrive in Hobart and to check for any changes, visit the Tasports shipping schedule. Janelle McMillan pop-up On Saturday 21 September, there will be an interactive experience ‘Shop, Share and Care’ at the market, on the plaza adjacent to the Information Booth. Janelle McMillan is an advocate for people with communication disabilities and is also a creative artist. She is the author of the children's book "Rafting, a wheelchair won't stop us" and a 2020 recipient of the Order of Australia Medal. Janelle is partnering with Variety Tasmania to host the pop-up stall, which will showcase Janelle's artwork, including canvas prints, mugs, postcards, and her books. All money raised from sales on the day will be donated to Variety Tasmania. We encourage stallholders to come along and visit her stall to see her digital artwork and to learn about the different ways you can communicate with non-verbal community members. She will have a brochure to show how people with various conditions rely on Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices. Although Janelle chooses not to use this style of communication device to talk to people, Janelle and Variety will be challenging visitors to try to use the brochure in navigating around the market and communicating with friends, family and even stallholders! Making a stall accessible doesn't have to be overwhelming or complicated. Simple things like having the right attitude, an easy to access stall and clear communication will help ensure everyone enjoys the market experience. ![]() Watch the ABC video on Janelle and understanding non-verbal community members: ![]() Don't send us your mail Over the last few months, we have been receiving more and more items of mail and parcels, that are clearly meant for stallholders. Instead of using their own address, the items are addressed to either the Salamanca Market post box, or to a stall number at Salamanca Market. Please ensure your suppliers are using your business address and not the market address or your stall number. Sending it here first will mean your mail will take twice as long to get to you and it may also get opened and recorded by City of Hobart mail staff as part of their normal processes of recording all incoming correspondence. ![]() Hello and Goodbye We welcome:
