‘It’s for all of us’: Dr Hung Nguyen wins RACGP Victoria GP of the Year
From everyone at South Eastern Melbourne PHN, we extend our congratulations to General Practitioner Dr Hung Nguyen for winning RACGP’s ‘GP of the Year’ in Victoria. Well known for his expertise as a GP and Medical and Cultural Educator, Dr Nguyen has worked as a GP at the Bunurong Health Service in Dandenong for around 18 years. He was also a valued member of the SEMPHN Board for several years. Among the many challenges of the pandemic, Dr Nguyen said it was great to have some good news; “I’ve spent most of my career educating
young doctors and promoting cultural competence training in the GP workforce, in a really practical way. This award is truly about representation and an acknowledgement of that work. It’s for all of us.”
Hung is now in the running for the National RACGP GP Award, to be announced in November. Congratulations again Dr Nguyen - you’ve got our vote!
Image-based prescribing arrangements cease 31 December
Given electronic prescribing is now widely available, the decision to extend image-based prescribing is to provide an emergency option for exceptional circumstances where e-prescribing or other mechanisms cannot be used, particularly where communities continue to be affected by state-wide COVID-19 lockdowns. While image-based prescribing arrangements will cease after 31 December 2021, healthcare providers will continue to have options that existed before image-based prescribing (in addition to electronic prescribing) to enable remote support to their patients. Factsheets on the supply of prescriptions via telehealth for prescribers and dispensers have been updated to reflect these changes. SMS costs associated with electronic prescribing will continue to be covered until 30 June 2022 while the Department finalises long term funding for the Electronic Prescription Delivery Service. If you have further questions, please contact eprescribing@health.gov.au.

Get ready for grass pollen season
Grass pollen season brings an increase in asthma and hay fever. It also brings the chance of thunderstorm asthma. For people with asthma or hay fever, especially those who experience wheezing or coughing with their hay fever, thunderstorm asthma can be sudden, serious and even life-threatening. As this year’s grass pollen season approaches, it is important to have a conversation with your patients about the importance of managing asthma and hay fever, and making sure that they know what they can do to help protect themselves this grass pollen season. Webinar: Asthma in Spring - Allergies and Thunderstorms The National Asthma Council and SEMPHN present this Webinar which will focus on spring time asthma and allergic rhinitis and how to manage both conditions, using the latest evidence-based guidelines. When: Wednesday, 22 September, 7pm–8pm
