MOWING IN MITCHELL

Our mowing teams are working across Mitchell to cut the fast-growing grass and vegetation that we know is frustrating our community.

We’ve had the perfect storm of consistent spring rain and bouts of sunshine that have been ideal for growing conditions, which has made this season’s efforts more difficult than usual.

We’re working to get the job done as quickly as possible, but our crews are having some real challenges.

The rain that’s soaked our parks, reserves and other public areas has accelerated the growth and the high grass has made it difficult to see the ground condition underneath in some areas.
This can make it hard to mow and sometimes our mowers and machinery have been bogged in the surface groundwater.

Inevitably, progress has been slower than we'd like and that means we’re behind in our regular mowing cycle.

You’ll see our teams out and about taking advantage of breaks in the wet weather to get our grass and vegetation back to a level that our community expects.

But with the equivalent area of about 150 MCG’s worth of grass to cut, we still have a bit to do.

If you're particularly concerned about a grassy area near you, please log it with us on our Report It tool.

Mitchell's young people don't want this quarry
