Celebrating 500 years! It’s been a joyful and jam-packed fortnight at Sedbergh. From our spectacular May Gala Weekend — complete with a gala dinner, brilliant drama productions, Sports Day finals, Jazz & Swing, and a silent auction (raising funds for a scholarship place) — to a full calendar of cricket fixtures played under glorious spring skies, the school has been buzzing with energy. Amidst the celebrations, our GCSE and A-level pupils have also been working hard as exam season gets underway. View the Sports Report and Performing Arts Report. The programme for our May Gala Weekend can now be viewed online. Image: Sedbergh School Equestrian team photo in the sunshine!
9Inspire DayIn 2024 we launched the innovative new Year 9 curriculum, 9Inspire. The programme is a response to the demands of a swiftly evolving and unpredictable future. We believe that as educators, we bear the responsibility of imparting a skill set that aligns with the needs of our dynamic society. Our next 9Inspire Day focuses on the importance and benefit of healthy living, as well as showcasing how an active lifestyle can bring rewards in and out of the classroom. A highlight of this exciting day will be presentations by Nick Gleeson, two-time Winter Olympian, and Mica Morris, two-time International Athlete.
History of Sedbergh School in 50 Objects #19: Powell HallPowell Hall was completed in 1906, funded predominantly by Chairman of the Governors Francis Sharp Powell. During Sir Francis’ school days (1843 – 6) the full extent of the School was the library building where all classes were held, and the Headmaster’s house, known as Evans House, where boys boarded. The new hall had an immediate impact on school life, providing opportunities for pupils and staff to perform to the full School for the first time. The first music to be heard in the hall was ‘God Save the King’ with a treble solo, sung by R. E. Atkinson, for the first verse. Don't miss object #18, the Eqyptian Mummy!
