Meet the Prefects!

We are delighted to introduce the School Prefects in Form 6 and to congratulate them on their appointment. This role serves as a form of delegated leadership within the school, providing these students with a valuable opportunity to develop essential lifelong skills. We wish them every success as they carry out their duties. We know that they will lead with kindness, honesty, and dedication, and we offer them our support as they complete a busy school year, their final one at The High School.

Art Show and Tell

Form 2 Art pupils kindly held a show and tell session at lunch time for Form 1 pupils also studying Art. They showed them the work they completed throughout Form 1 and explained in great depth each block of work they completed. This included mark making and tone, a ceramics project, the colour wheel and acrylic painting as well as a two colour reduction lino print. It was clear that their enthusiasm and pride was inspiring and hugely helpful to those in Form 1.

Form 5 Excursion

5th Years had a fantastic day out at Zipit Forest Adventures today for our year-group bonding trip! After a quick morning roll call, everyone was on the bus and heading for the trees. Once there, the year group split into eight teams, geared up in their harnesses, and completed their safety briefing. We would like to say thanks to the brilliant Zipit team for looking after us, and to our accompanying teachers - Ms Campion, Mr O’Sullivan, Mr McNamara, Ms Keating, Ms Kirrane, and Ms Delaney—for making the day possible!

Making Rainbows - Form 2 Science

These past few weeks, Form 2 have been learning about density in Science. We were asked to create an experiment using only the instructions: “Make a rainbow with just water, sugar, and salt.” We started by figuring out how the experiment would work and planning it with our partners. On Thursday, we carried out the experiment with our partners. We worked out how much sugar and salt needed to be added so that they would not mix together. We also found out which was more dense, sugar or salt, in order to layer the different colours without them mixing. In the end, most of the groups successfully completed the experiment.

Senior Drama 2026!

This year’s Senior Play is the hit musical Chicago (School's Edition), and we want all 5th Year pupils to get involved! Running for three nights from 5–7 November, this exciting production needs a wide range of talents to bring it to life. Whether you want to act, sing, or dance onstage, or put your organizational and artistic skills to use behind the scenes, there is a perfect waiting role for you.

We are looking for crew members to assist with backstage management, costumes, makeup, and set design. We also need friendly volunteers to manage front-of-house doors and serve refreshments during the shows.

Taking part is a fantastic way to build confidence, learn new skills, and make lifelong memories with friends. Come along to the auditions and join the team - we would love to have you involved! Keep an eye on the noticeboards for more details.

National Junior Cycle Graphics Award

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding academic achievement of one of our current pupils. Pictured here with her teacher, Mr O’Sullivan, she was proudly presented with a prestigious Certificate of Excellence from the Techno Teachers Association of Ireland. (For child protection reasons, we do not publish our pupils’ names alongside their photographs.)
This national award recognises outstanding performance in the Junior Cycle Graphics examination. Out of thousands of students across the country who sat the exam, our talented pupil secured an incredible Joint 4th Place in Ireland.
The certificate underscores the immense hard work and technical design skills developed by the student throughout her Junior Cycle studies, highlighting not only the exceptional dedication of the student, but also the high standard of design and technology education at our school. Congratulations to Mr O'Sullivan and his talented pupil on such an outstanding national achievement!

HSD Parents' Association AGM

At The High School, we truly value parents as vital members of our community. The HSD Parents’ Association plays a crucial role in enabling effective communication, organising social evenings and events, and promoting parental involvement. We warmly encourage all parents and guardians to join us for this year’s Parents’ Association Annual General Meeting (AGM), taking place on Tuesday, 29 September, at 7:00 pm in The Demonstration Theatre. Your voice, support, and active involvement play a vital role in helping us make the best decisions for the school as a whole. We hope to see you there!

This Week in Home Economics

Form 4 pupils had a wonderful time baking with Ms Toolan in Culinary Skills class this week, creating delicious, colourful cookies just in time for lunch!

How Will the World Treat Us Today?

The morning sun rises.

How will the world treat us today,

Even if we are sad?

Hope spreads around the Earth.

It ignites something.

Gratitude and

Happiness hit.

Sadness leaves, and the world is

Calm and quiet.

Happiness is everywhere, even up

Over the moon.

Overjoyed.

Laughter is all around the world.
