NWTD News - March 2025

The North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), being progressed by TasNetworks, include 240 km of new and upgraded transmission lines and other energy infrastructure that will increase the capacity of Tasmania's electricity network.

TasNetworks is preparing to submit a Permit Application to the Tasmanian Planning Commission for the North West Transmission Developments. A range of studies have been undertaken to inform the Application.

Community drop-in information sessions are being held to share key study findings and details about the planning and approvals process:

  • Bracknell War Memorial Hall (29 Louisa Street) on Wed, 9 April, 2pm - 6pm
  • Future Energy Hub (1-3 Spring St, Burnie) on Thurs, 10 April, 2pm - 6pm
  • Sheffield Football and Cricket Club (Spring St) on Fri, 11 April, 2pm - 6pm
  • TasNetworks Deloraine Depot (38 West Goderich St) on Sat, 12 April, 11am - 2pm
     
  • A webinar about the findings will be held on Tues 15 April, 12pm - 2pm

The Permit Application is for the alignment between Palmerston and Burnie, Burnie and Hampshire Hills, and a line between Stowport and Heybridge to connect Marinus Link (refer to map below).

NWTD CPA approved by AER

In 2024, TasNetworks submitted its contingent project application to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), seeking an increase to its revenue to fund early works on the NWTD Stage 1. This month, the AER published its final decision in relation to TasNetworks' application.

Celebrating Community and Connection

NWTD is proud to partner with Rural Alive and Well (RAW) to foster connected and resilient communities. In partnership with TasNetworks, RAW has been able to deliver a variety of self-care events and activities. Recently, RAW organised a lively hoedown at Hazelbrae, a creative macrame workshop at Lower Barrington, and an engaging sip and paint workshop at Cressy.
