Have you *seen* the tote bag for this fund drive? 😍

NaNoWriMo

Hi everyone,

October is nigh! Winter is coming! NaNoWriMo is coming!

Today's email has updates on:

  • 25th Anniversary Special Fund Campaign launch
  • Forum moderator applications
  • Events to share with a wider audience
  • In-person event venue suggestions
  • Notes and info from the ML NaNo Prep event

25th Anniversary Special Fund Campaign launch

Earlier today, we sent out an email launching our 25th Anniversary Special Fund campaign. You can read about the fund campaign in that email and learn more about our 25th anniversary case statement and three year anniversary fund campaign in an email from earlier this week, but I wanted to make sure to highlight that you can only get this extremely beautiful limited edition tote bag if you donate $30 between now and October 6th.

Please mention this campaign to your region—not only is the tote bag a great incentive, this fund drive is an important one for our nonprofit.

Forum moderator applications

If you'd like to be a moderator for the NaNoWriMo forums, applications are now open! As a general rule, we suggest that new MLs focus on learning the ML ropes for at least a year before adding moderator duties on top, but we strongly encourage MLs who feel confident with the ML role to apply to be a moderator since you're already so familiar with how our community works. We'd particularly love to expand our ranks outside North America!

There's more information about what being a moderator involves in this forum thread, and you can also ask any questions you have there as well.

Forum moderator applications!

Events to share with a wider audience

Are you hosting a virtual event that has capacity for a larger audience? We love being able to feature regional events on our HQ calendar where we can. If you've got an event planned that you know you can accommodate a larger audience, review the criteria and then submit your information using this form to see if we can highlight it!

In-person event venue suggestions

If you're in the midst of trying to get your events sorted out and struggling to find venues for things, there's a really great conversation happening in this thread on the ML forum that has a ton of creative ideas for in-person event venues!

Notes and info from the ML NaNo Prep event

Our first-ever ML NaNo Prep event last Friday (or at least it was Friday in my time zone!) was a rousing success—we had a ton of fun and had some really great discussions about activities and resources for hosting NaNo Prep events. You can find all of the resources I used and how I used them, plus a link to the recording of the event and the text from the chat, in this forum thread. Thanks to everyone who joined us, I hope you got some helpful ideas from it and also enjoyed yourself!

🚨 ML Essential Duties Check-In! 🚨

There are so many moving parts and so much information all the time, sometimes it can be helpful to just do a quick check-in with what you should have done by now and what you should be getting ready for:

Immediate to-dos:

  • Ensure you've ordered your ML kit (information on that is in this email)

  • Finalizing dates and times for any October events you're hosting and adding them to your events page

  • New MLs: finishing up the ML training in the Google Classroom

Ongoing to-dos:

  • Adding your events to your events page as they're confirmed

  • Approving participant-submitted events in your region

  • Coordinating with your co-MLs to send regular regional messages about upcoming events, how they can submit their own events, and where they can find conversation and community in your region

Task to complete by next May:

  • Complete one of the ML workshops (which one depends on whether you are a new or returning ML, though you are of course welcome to participate in all of them if you want!)

Thanks, everyone! I'll be in the Discord for a little bit after I send this email but will also answer questions left in the #hq-chat channel when I'm not there, and as ever I'm happy to answer questions on the ML forum! (Tag me if you want to make sure I see it.)
