Black Maternal Health Awareness April 11th-17th marked the fifth annual Black Maternal Health Week. Black mothers are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white mothers. Founded by The Black Mamas Alliance, the purpose of Black Maternal Health Week is to amplify care solutions and awareness around the maternity disparities uniquely faced by Black women. At Lawndale Christian Health Center, we provide high quality, loving prenatal and women's health care at an affordable price, making sure that Black mothers and all mothers have access to the care they need. Get to Know Our ProvidersReAnne Lappinga, FNPReAnne Lappinga, FNP, cared for patients for 15 years as a nurse before becoming a Nurse Practitioner at Lawndale Christian Health Center. With a long line of nurses in her family and her father serving as a firefighter, ReAnne is no stranger to service-oriented roles. During her time studying to be a Nurse Practitioner, she completed a clinical rotation at LCHC. "I loved it. When I graduated, I knew I wanted to work at LCHC. I feel very grateful that a path opened up for me to be here," she said. ReAnne loves that LCHC allows her to not only meet patients' physical needs, but to connect with them through shared faith. As a new FNP, ReAnne is purposeful in taking the time to listen to her patients. Her patients' voices are welcomed and their experience is important as ReAnne is conscious of how an environment to share freely is key to long-term care. "The Lord calls us to love our neighbors and meeting physical needs is a tangible way to do that. There are many health disparities in Chicago, and I am grateful to be part of a health center that has been blessed with resources to meet the health needs of our patients." Want to join our team?
