Hi everyone, Welcome to our mid-winter edition of the stallholder newsletter. The winter marketing campaign is in full swing and we hope you have enjoyed the quirky new Salamanca Market ad which has been featuring on Channel 7, various social media platforms and most recently on the big screens in the Hobart Airport baggage collection area. The market information booth, website, market ute and various banners have all been given a much needed refresh as part of this campaign. As the days start to lengthen and slowly warmup, it is a great time to be planning for the spring and summer markets ahead. If you are employing staff or family during these months, please ensure that they are familiar with the operations handbook. Robert Matson - City Welcome Manager
Salamanca Market staff As many of you know, we’ve been searching for a Stallholder Coordinator and we’re excited to share that not only have we found one, but we’re also welcoming back a familiar face! Sebastian Jarvie has joined the team from Council’s Customer Service unit. He brings a wealth of knowledge about Salamanca Market, having worked on the crew for several years and handled market enquiries through customer service. His experience and insight will be a great asset to the team. We’re also delighted to welcome back Amelia Barber, who returns after a short break. With over 10 years of experience with the Salamanca Market team, Amelia’s deep understanding of the market and strong relationships with stallholders will continue to be invaluable. Please join us in giving both Sebastian and Amelia a warm welcome! Contact updates Please note that we have updated some of the contact numbers for the Market team:
Farewell to Tim
After many years of service, Tim Salter has recently stepped down from the market crew to spend more time with his young family. Over nearly three decades, Tim has been a crew member, team leader, and relief supervisor - roles in which he became a familiar and much-loved face to stallholders and colleagues alike. Tim’s sense of humour, tireless work ethic, and ability to get things done with minimal fuss have made him a cornerstone of the market’s operations. Some will remember the early days when crew members delivered stallholder tables using a trailer pulled around the market by hand - a time when Tim was already setting the standard for dedication. It wasn’t uncommon for him to work all day at the market and then head across the road to help at the Taste of Tasmania site late into the night. We wish him all the best in this next chapter with his family.
Market crew The Market Crew recruited a few new faces over the past months and we would like to extend a warm welcome to - Dheeraj Sharma, Kelvin Yang, Nathan Williamson, Alejandro Braceras and Sam Gore. Please make them feel welcome at the market as they are there to assist you, as well as help with the operation of Salamanca Market on Saturdays.
Packing up early Stallholders may begin packing down their stall from 2:30pm at the earliest and must be able to trade up until 3pm. In some special circumstances the Market Supervisor may grant permission to pack up early, and if this is the case, the crew will advise each stallholder they can pack down early and when they will be able to enter the market area.
Winter campaign Our winter campaign is going well and we are pleased with the results so far. Our focus has been reaching local Tasmanian audiences over winter, particularly those that may not have been for a while. It's important to remind locals that the market is on every Saturday, they can rug up and come down to enjoy the experience. So many locals love the market, but don't often go, as they forget that the market is on, or think that it will be the same as the last time they visited. Winter is the perfect opportunity to entice the locals down to the market, and is a way we can support our stallholders when its less crowded and the weather is colder and more challenging. For those of you who haven't seen our advert yet, you can click the link below and
watch the version that is currently screening on Channel 7. It may not suit everyone's taste, but it is aimed at a younger demographic and it is a different style of advert to what we would normally do. It's also designed specifically to grab people's attention and the style of the advert is very fast paced - so perfect for social media.
How to get featured on social media We often get questions about how to get your business featured on our Facebook or Instagram pages. It's really easy to do, simply email us! Send us some information and a few nice photos and we'll add you in. We don't often hear what you have been up to and we don't always see the tags or comments, so if you really want us to see something or share something, please contact us the good old fashioned way! You can email us at salamancamarket@hobartcity.com.au Website updates There are still quite a number of stallholders who have not updated their Salamanca Market website listing. Over the next few months, we will be contacting stallholders so we can update their listing for them. This will help customers to find information on stallholders and will greatly improve the usefulness of this part of the website. Salamanca Market
