Information Updates

OVR Continuing Education Requirement

Every Employment Specialist, who bills OVR for Supported Employment or Employment & Retention, is required to complete 15 hours of continuing education, related to disability and employment, each year. Verification of these hours is due by July 1 with your agency OVR vendor contract. You can find the CRP Continued Education Units form here. Of these 15 hours, 4 must be in the topic area of serving consumers who are d/Deaf, blind or DeafBlind. This newsletter includes many options for continuing education. Recorded webinars can count even if you do not have a certificate of completion. Attach a screenshot of the webinar and a signed statement from your supervisor that you watched the number of hours for purpose of verification.

Supported Employment (SE) Core Training Series

July 2024 – June 2025 dates are posted. The Supported Employment Core Training Series is required of all new Employment Specialists but is open to anyone wanting a refresher. It continues to be virtual and free of charge.

Kentucky APSE Conference 2024: Engage. Include. Amplify

September 9^th- 10^th, Lexington, in-person
Registration is now open for this annual conference on employment and disability. The conference will be in-person and will offer 8 hours of training and the annual Meet & Greet. It will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET on 9/9 and conclude by 4:00 p.m. ET on 9/10. This is a great chance to gather with Employment Specialists and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors from across Kentucky!

Who Needs to Know?: When and How to Disclose Vision Impairment; 1 hour
Recorded webinar: Job seekers and employees with vision loss need to consider if and when to disclose their disability to their employer. What is the best time or way to go about disclosing? How can individuals prepare themselves for disclosure? Is it necessary to disclose? During this session, the benefits and implications of the disclosure will be explored. Autism Informed Employers

Online, self-paced course; certificate for 3 hours of training issued upon completion. Innovative Supports for Autistic Workers (ISAW) recently announced a new online course, Autism Informed Employers. This course allows employers, Employment Specialists, and other support persons to access ISAW training at their convenience. This course is offered at no cost to anyone interested in learning to hire, supervise, support, and retain autistic employees.

In 2019, the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) updated the Universal Employment Competencies. This is a useful tool for understanding best practices in our field, measuring how your agency compares, using it in employee reviews, and more.
