Seminar: Global North vs Global South perspectives on multilingualism within education - 11/10/2024

This engaging session will feature two esteemed academics from South Africa, dr. Xolisa Guzula (University of Cape Town) and dr. Robyn Tyler (University of the Western Cape), offering a comparative perspective on multilingualism in education from both the Global North and Global South.

Workshop: Is ECOWAS a Tool or an Obstacle to Decolonization? Migration Governance and Beyond - 15/10/2024

This workshop aims to explore scenarios of migration without borders (MWB) and a post-national West Africa, as discussed in the literature.

In light of this, the key question of the workshop is: to what extent is ECOWAS moving towards or away from the post-nationalism and decolonization scenario described by Aniche and colleagues (2022), and why?

Hoewel de Europese Unie een actieplan tegen racisme lanceerde, blijken er tal van obstakels bij het realiseren van de doelstellingen. Intersectionele discriminatie gaat over de complexe verhouding tussen racisme en andere sociale vormen van discriminatie op basis van bijvoorbeeld gender en klasse.

Workshop - Research in Times of Crisis: Knowledge Production Amid Global Disruptions - 23/10/2024
 

Knowledge is as much about discovery as it is about construction. This workshop invites early-career scholars and others who are interested in this topic to critically examine the underlying frameworks that shape our understanding of the world.

Through an interactive session, we aim to unpack the politics embedded in the processes of knowledge production within interdisciplinary research, to challenge conventional epistemologies and explore alternative methodologies.

Community Talks: TechnoRehabLab: Transforming Osteoarthritis Care with Technology in Burundi - 30/10/2024
 

The WHO identifies rehabilitation as a crucial priority for managing chronic conditions, with 2.4 billion people in need of these services. Unfortunately, only a small percentage of patients, especially in low-income countries, receive rehabilitation due to a lack of infrastructure and healthcare professionals.

This presentation will highlight how technology can empower clinicians to extend rehabilitation services in regions facing critical shortages of healthcare professionals, ultimately enhancing patients' function, autonomy, and quality of life.

Accelerate aims to provide policy and policy implementation support to the VLIR-UOS community, both in Belgium as well as in all partner and scholarship countries, in a limited number of strategic themes. Accelerate will identify, connect, deepen and mobilise relevant expertise available in the VLIR-UOS network, supporting the acceleration of these themes within the VLIR-UOS community.

Implementation research for management of multiple long-term conditions in the context of non-communicable diseases (Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases - GACD)

Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases, an alliance of international funding agencies representing over 80% of the world’s public health research funding and the first collaboration of its kind to specifically address NCDs.

This call specifically targets implementation science to improve health outcomes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs*) and/or those in high-income countries (HICs) serving disadvantaged populations.

International Conference GAPSYM17: Africa at the intersection of Climate, Migration & Health challenges - registrations are open now - 28 & 29/11/2024

The symposiums organised by the Africa Platform of Ghent University Association (GAPSYM) have been trendsetting in the Belgian academic landscape over the last 16 years, in the sense that they provide a unique interdisciplinary forum to showcase academic research taking place in collaboration with African-based partners.

This 17th multidisciplinary conference of the AUGent Africa Platform will be co-organised by Ghent University’s International Thematic Network CliMigHealth, which focuses on the nexus between climate change, migration and health(care), the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS), the Centre for the Social Study of Migration and Refugees (CESSMIR) and Stellenbosch University.

Ghent University Nelson Mandela Lecture - with Gulshan Khan and Adriaan van Dis - 28/11/2024
 

The Ghent University Mandela Lectures have become established public events in the city of Ghent. In this year's lecture South African world-renowned photographer and journalist Gulshan Khan will engage in a discussion with Dutch author Adriaan van Dis. They will discuss contemporary challenges in South Africa and the question of Nelson Mandela's legacy, through the lens of Gulshan Khan's artistic oeuvre. 

The lecture will be followed by the official opening of Gulshan Khan's picture exhibition in the city library of Ghent.

Biking trip through Uganda for Ghent University alumni - 11-22/2/2025 You can still register for this unique adventure!

Onze sportieve UGent-alumni zijn welkom in februari 2025 om deel te nemen aan een avontuurlijke fietstocht door Oeganda!

Tegelijkertijd steunen en bezoeken de deelnemers het project 'Kampala Head Trauma Awareness and 3D printing Cranioplasty for Skull Defect'. Dit project wordt uitgevoerd aan het universitair ziekenhuis van de Makerere University door Prof. Moses Galukande en Dr. Hervé Monka Lekuya in nauwe samenwerking met Prof. Edward Baert (UZ/UGent). Deelnemers zullen onder begeleiding van de leidinggevenden het project kunnen bezoeken.

Deze reis zal worden gekoppeld aan een institutionele reis naar Oeganda, onder leiding van de UGent vicerector.
