Intercultural Neighbouring Sunday Resources

Intercultural Neighbouring Sunday - Resources Available

On Sunday 19 July, Uniting Church communities are invited to celebrate Intercultural Neighbouring Sunday.

The celebration of Intercultural Neighbouring Sunday arose from a decision of the 16th Assembly as a way of seeking to deepen the Uniting Church's commitment to living faith and life interculturally.

Resources for congregations and communities are now available from the UCA Assembly website. In the introduction, UCA President Rev Charissa Suli writes:

"This year's theme, "Belonging: One Body, Many Members," invites every congregation to reflect: Who belongs? Whose gifts are waiting to be discovered? Whose voices might help us hear Christ more clearly? Who is still waiting to know they truly belong?
Belonging is more than welcoming people through our doors. It means making room for one another in our worship, leadership, decision-making and shared life together."

Broome Uniting Church

Broome Uniting Church - 100 Years and More in the Kimberley

In August this year the Broome Uniting Church celebrates 100 years of worship in the current church building. The church is a recognised historic site, set in the pearling district of the town, adjacent to Roebuck Bay.

While the church building reaches the 100 year milestone, the church's presence in Broome goes back 116 years when the Presbyterian Church of WA decided to set up an outpost in the north west town in 1910.

These days Broome Uniting Church is a welcoming place of Sunday worship, and a gathering place during the week through its bustling op shop.

For this story we cross the WA Synod border to visit our Uniting Church Northern Synod neighbour congregation to learn more about the church and its people.
