Fall Registration News

Registration opens next week! New courses will be added on a rolling basis and YSE courses will be added in May. You can add YSE courses to your worksheets during add/drop in August. Refer to the newly revised EVST 2025-26 BA Checklist or BS Checklist when selecting courses and check the FAQ page on the EVST website for answers to some common registration questions, including: 

·       How to register for graduate and professional school courses

·       How to choose concentration courses 

·       What courses fulfill the advanced seminar requirement 

New EVST Fall 2025 Courses:

  • EVST 3303 | Environmental Data Visualization for Communication. A basic understanding of descriptive statistics is expected. Programming or coding experience is not required. Instructor: Simon Queenborough

  • EVST 3639 | Food Systems and Climate Service. Instructor: J. Nicolas Hernandez-Aguilera

EVST Class of 2026 and 2025.5 | Details on the advising relationship and the senior essay process can be found in the EVST Senior Essay Handbook. When signing up for EVST 4960: Senior Colloquium, please note: 

  • Section 01 is intended for EVST seniors who plan to complete their senior essays in Fall semester.  Enrollment is by instructor permission. Permission is granted only to (1) seniors who have previously completed one term of EVST 496 (continuing two term essayists) and (2) senior candidates for the BA in EVST who expect to complete a one-credit senior essay in the fall term. Enrollment in Section 01 requires prior confirmation that the student has secured the commitment of a Yale faculty member to act as their senior essay advisor. 
  • Section 02 is intended for EVST seniors who plan to complete their senior essays in Spring semester.  This category includes students in the BS track, which requires a two-term senior essay, and those students in the BA track who have been approved by the EVST DUS to pursue a two-term project.  For students in the BA track, enrollment in this section requires prior confirmation that the student has secured the commitment of a Yale faculty member to act as their senior essay advisor and the advisor's and the EVST DUS's approval of their proposed topic and plan of research.  

Pre-registration EVST DUS office hours are posted on the EVST website and EVST Peer Mentors will host an advising session on Monday April 14th at 4PM at the ELM.

EVENTS

Office of Sustainability State of Sustainability & Awards Breakfast  | Tuesday, April 8 9 to 10:30 a.m. Henry R. Luce Hall, Common Room, 2nd floor. A poster session to highlight the ways that Yale is advancing operational excellence and research insights in pursuit of climate solutions. More than 25 Yale departments, centers, and programs will be in attendance to showcase how they are working to build a more resilient future. Awards will be presented to students, faculty, and staff for outstanding achievements in sustainability, and guests can enjoy a plant-forward breakfastfrom  Yale Catering while gathering with the campus environmental community. Climate Storytellers’ Summit |  Thursday, April 10th 4 - 6pm ET | Online via Zoom. Register in advance | Join My Climate Story project, the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, the Penn Center for Science, Sustainability, & the Media, and the Princeton High Meadows Environmental Institute for a free, live, online, two-hour Climate Storytellers’ Summit. You will hear from 20 of the best climate storytellers from around the world sharing lightning talks with their insights and best practices. The program highlights the diversity and variety of climate storytelling. It will feature climate stories and reflections on the practice of climate storytelling by presenters of all ages and stages. Seniors

Watershed Restoration Project Coordinator, Community Based Natural Resource Management |Taylorsville, CA | The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment's current project portfolio is centered on a million-acre focal landscape for the South Lassen Watersheds Group, a collaborative addressing forest and watershed management, climate resilience, and economic development in  critical upper watersheds of Battle Creek, Mill Creek, Deer Creek, and the upper North Fork of the  Feather River. The selected individual will work closely with Sierra Institute staff, non-governmental  partners, and federal land management agencies to advance watershed restoration as part of  multiple large landscape restoration projects to improve forest resilience across the only anadromous watersheds on public lands in the Sierra Nevada, as well as support post-fire restoration. Apply Now 

John Addison Porter Prize | The Porter Prize recognizes original scholarship that gathers and synthesizes facts and principles to create work of broad human interest.   Students submit their own work for consideration. Alaska Fellows Program (AFP) Opportunities | AFP is a fall-to-spring residential fellowship program that nurtures the next generation of Alaska-based leaders by pairing talented young people with strong communities and professional mentors. AFP has locations in four different communities within Alaska – Sitka, Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks.
