National Reconciliation Week National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories and cultures, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. This special week runs annually between 27 May – 3 June, with the 2022 theme being Be Brave, Make Change. Communities can take part by reading and listening to key speakers and texts, or by looking into the many resources available on the Reconciliation Australia website. The Premier’s Reading Challenge 2022 began with the new school year and there are a couple of different ways to access the nominated titles through your local library.
All students from Reception to Year 12 are eligible to participate in this Challenge. Participants must read 12 books from the curated list by 9 September 2022. Specific requirements and details are available at the Premier’s Reading Challenge website. Book Recommendation - Cold Coast by Robyn Mundy This fiction title has beautiful descriptions of the natural environment - it is set in Svalbard, a group of islands between Norway and the North Pole. The subject matter may not be for everyone, set in 1932 it follows the lives of two animal trappers. The main character, young widow Wanny Woldstad takes on the challenges of this male dominated world. The author takes you through the trapping season and the relationship between Wanny and the animals around her and her trapping partner Anders Seaterdal. Through blizzards, polar bear attacks and traversing glaciers, Cold Coast tells a story of sacrifice to achieve a lifelong dream. Children's Programs Early childhood program update Our early childhood programs are back up and running after the April school holidays. While you still need to book to come along, we have increased the number of people who can come to the sessions so join us now for Baby Bounce and Rhyme (0-18mths), Action Rhymes (18mth-3yrs) and Storytime (3-5yrs). Adult IT help ProgramsAdult digital literacy tuition is available at the Woodside, Coventry and Gumeracha Libraries. Sessions are available for users of Windows laptops (sorry, no Macs), iPads/iPhones, and Android devices. These sessions are great for asking specific questions you might have about your device. Our family history one-on-one and sessions and beginner course also return in March. Whether you have a project on the go, or need help getting started, our expert family history trainers can give you a hand. Bookings are essential for all sessions.
