Statement in Response to Disruptions at ANZAC Day ServicesUniting Church in Australia President Rev Charissa Suli has released a statement in response to the disruptions at several ANZAC Day dawn services across the country. The President, in solidarity with the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress and Synod Moderators expressed deep concern and disappointment for the disruption and booing that occurred during the Welcome to Country at several dawn services. "We stand in solidarity with Ray Minniecon, Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander leaders, and all who were affected. For many—particularly First Peoples—this was not merely a disruption. It caused real harm and was deeply disrespectful and, for some, traumatic, reflecting the ongoing reality of racism and racial harm in our nation."
ANZAC Day 2026 - Moderator's ReflectionUniting Church WA Moderator Rev David Jackson CSM shares a personal reflection on his own experiences serving a military chaplain, and the importance of ANZAC Day for himself, his family and for our community. Rev Jackson writes that every ANZAC Day, he takes the opportunity to reflect on his own experiences, and how grateful he is of the character of our service men and women who give of themselves selflessly for the greater good of humankind.
Letter Writing Action - DeepfakesThe Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania, supported by the Synod of WA, Synod of Queensland and The Wesley Centre, have prepared a letter writing resource - Preventing Deepfakes from Causing Harm. Deepfake images generated using AI can be used to cause serious harm, especially when used to create sexually exploitive material of children and adults. While it is possible to regulate the sector, apps, and corporations that enable this abuse, Australia is lagging far behind other countries that have acted. Help by writing
to convince the Australian to prevent further harm, and that solutions already exist in other countries that can be explored. Download the letter writing resource from the Human Rights page on our website - click below.
