NWTD News - January 2025 The North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), being progressed by TasNetworks, include 240 km of new and upgraded transmission lines and other energy infrastructure that will increase the capacity of Tasmania's electricity network. The developments will support our renewable energy future. Watch explainer video ![]() NWTD energised by appointment of head contractorThe NWTD project has welcomed the New Year with the achievement of a key milestone – the appointment of head contractor, GenusPlus Group Ltd (Genus). We’re excited to welcome Genus on-board, with the two-part contract for Stage 1 of the NWTD project commencing with an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, subject to conditions including a final investment decision, planning and environmental approvals, and the Australian Energy Regulator’s contingent project approval.
