JOTTINGS OF
A PERSONAL JEWELLER

APRIL 2025 NEWSLETTER

Hello!

And welcome to my April newsletter. It’s hard to believe we’re a quarter of the way through the year. Whether it’s a sign of the times or that people are wanting to realise on their jewels, I find I am being asked more and more to sell some really lovely pieces on consignment. This past month was no exception with there being two pieces in particular I’d like to tell you about.

The first is this wonderful Essex Crystal brooch depicting a kingfisher flying over a lake with a fish in its mouth. Made around 1880 and with a diameter of 30mm it’s probably the largest example of an Essex crystal I’ve ever handled where the subject matter is so clear and detailed. Added to this it comes in its original box which always adds a further character to an already special piece.

The second piece is also a brooch and in this case in the form of a beautiful butterfly. Set with beautiful vibrant Rubies and Sapphires, and Diamonds and seed pearls, unusually for this type of piece it is all 18 carat yellow gold mounted and is actually quite heavy (16.6 grams). A colleague like me feels it was probably made in India towards the end of the 19th century.

Click on either image to find out more through my website.

With more and more pieces coming to me on consignment if you are on Instagram or LinkedIn or look at my website regularly, you will see these pieces firsthand and don’t hesitate to contact me directly for further details.

In the media

I had another fascinating early morning interview with Trevor Chappell on Radio National’s “Overnights” a few weeks ago. Again lots of listeners phoned in and many interesting questions and items were discussed. You can listen to the 30+ minute interview here.

New Pieces

I have been busy creating new one off pieces for my ever changing collection. This month includes not only a simple but wonderful dark Amethyst pebble necklace but also a freshwater pearl and Turquoise “slipover” necklace. Both necklaces are designed just to slip on, no clasps and look very effective. Again click each image to find out more.

Forthcoming Talk

Finally, a reminder that I am giving my Elizabeth Taylor talk at the RACV City Club Melbourne on Thursday 24th April. Not only was Elizabeth a talented actor, but an astute buyer who amassed an amazing collection of wonderful jewels. So to learn more please do come to what promises to be a most enjoyable talk with an excellent morning tea included.
