NWTD News - May 2024 The North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), being progressed by TasNetworks, include 240 km of new and upgraded transmission lines and other energy infrastructure that will increase the capacity of Tasmania's electricity network. The developments will support our renewable energy future. NWTD Notified Corridor amendedFollowing the announcement by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments that Marinus Link will, in the first instance, proceed with one cable, the overall scope of the North West Transmission Developments was revised to be delivered in two stages. As a result, TasNetworks has requested that the Minister for Planning amend the notified corridor to allow for project scope revisions. Championing collaboration with the Tasmanian agricultural communityTasNetworks is pleased to be one of the first partners to support the Farm Access Code of Conduct. The Code sets out mutually-agreed timelines, processes and courtesies to be followed by infrastructure proponents looking to consult with farmers about developing on their land. It’s been developed by TasFarmers and the Victorian Farmers Federation to help protect farmers’ rights, build better co-operation, and help prevent long and stressful disputes that can delay crucial projects. Meet the border collie named TasNetworks! It is a proven fact that having a dog can make you happier. Well, what about a dog named TasNetworks? Following recent interactions with our North West Transmission Developments land agents, local North West Tasmanian farmer, Geoff Elmer, purchased a working dog that he uses in sheep dog trials. His name – TasNetworks! TasNetworks, an energetic border collie, recently competed in the sheepdog trials at Agfest and then sniffed his way along to visit us in the TasNetworks tent. Mr Elmer explained “Tas didn't go as well as he was hoping for, but he is still a young dog – I reckon he will go a lot better next year”. Good luck for next year TasNetworks - we will have special treats ready and waiting for your next visit. Proposed Renewable Energy Zone for North West TasmaniaThe Tasmanian Government has been exploring ways to meet Tasmania’s extra energy demand whilst also protecting Tasmanian environmental values, supporting industry, and providing benefits to Tasmanian communities. Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) are a way to achieve this. Throughout 2023, a comprehensive analysis was undertaken by government with community to determine the spatial boundaries for a north west REZ. A proposed area has been identified - located south of Burnie and extending on both sides of the Cam River.
