WASHINGTON RESEARCH FOUNDATION STUDENT PROGRAM FUNDING OPPORTUNITY

Supporting students in Washington state to access STEM research opportunities and engage in entrepreneurship

    WASHINGTON RESEARCH FOUNDATION TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALIZATION

Researchers and entrepreneurs at Washington state institutions have the potential to conduct translational research that eventually leads to the creation of novel products and services that can improve health and advance technology. However, before technologies are ready for commercial investment, they often require further technical development, evaluation and de-risking within the research institution. WRF technology commercialization grants are intended to bridge part of this gap between discovery research and commercial investment in novel technologies.

    WASHINGTON RESEARCH FOUNDATION START-UP INVESTMENTS

As a leading early-stage investor, WRF works with entrepreneurs, research institutions, other investors and industry partners to transform great ideas into successful Washington-based businesses. WRF has invested in 132 local startups since 1996.

In-State Focus: WRF Capital is the investment vehicle for Washington Research Foundation. We invest approximately $5 million annually in startup companies based in Washington, with a focus on spinouts from nonprofit research institutions in our state: UW, WSU, Fred Hutch and ISB, among many others. Since 1996 we have invested in 132 local startups.

    WSU COMMERCIALIZATION GAP FUND

Once a year the Office of Commercialization hosts the Commercialization Gap Fund (CGF). The CGF awards researchers up to $50,000  (with a maximum of $2,000 allocated towards business development activities) to those that demonstrate that their innovation(s) have the ability to make an economic impact in our society.

The CGF program demonstrates the threefold mission of Washington State University’s commitment to its land-grant university heritage and tradition of service to society. The transfer of technologies to commercial entities allows valuable knowledge to be applied through local and global engagement. This knowledge has the potential to improve lives and enhance the economies of WA State, the nation, and the world.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WORKFORCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING (BHWET) PROGRAM FOR PARAPROFESSIONALS

Grants to develop and expand experiential training opportunities, such as field placements and internships, to increase the supply of students preparing to become peer support specialists and other behavioral health-related paraprofessionals. The program emphasizes relationships with community-based partners to increase access to quality behavioral health services across the lifespan in high need and high demand areas. Special focus is placed on demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the specific concerns for children, adolescents, and transitional-aged youth who are at risk for behavioral health disorders.
