New Town Retail Precinct Upgrade - January Update

Works commencing next week (16 January)

The City of Hobart is happy to announce that construction for stage two of the New Town retail precinct upgrade will commence next week (16 January).  The works will create a more vibrant, inviting and accessible place for everyone and include a range of infrastructure improvements including two new pedestrian crossings, renewed footpaths, kerbing and road infrastructure.

MSD Civil Services, will be delivering the works on behalf of the City which will be focused around the intersection of Cross and Valentine streets and New Town Road. 

To allow these works to be carried out safely, traffic management arrangements will be put in place during the construction period from 6.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.  This will result in the temporary removal of some on-street parking and the closure of some sections of footpath.  Temporary pedestrian crossings will be put in place as required.  At certain times during construction, access to Cross and Valentine streets may also be impacted.

Road users and pedestrians are encouraged to be mindful of the works, and to please respect any directions provided or signage in place within the work zone.

Every effort will be made to minimise the disruption to the public and nearby businesses.  The works are scheduled to be completed at the end of June 2023, weather permitting.
