Emma studied abroad on the SIT IHP Food Systems program, traveling to Ecuador, Malawi, and Spain. The semester abroad gave her an expanded understanding of what sustainable food systems look like in different contexts, and she conducted her EVST senior thesis research this past summer with folks she met on the program! EventsClick images below for details. ![]() Spring OpportunitiesCBEY’s Planetary Solutions Prize Applications open Today! | Awards $50,000 to promising student business ventures that advance environmental sustainability and offers finalists a chance to pitch at Startup Yale, the university’s flagship entrepreneurship event. The 2025 Planetary Solutions Prize is part of Startup Yale, a collaboration between the Yale Center for Business and the Environment, InnovateHealth Yale, Dwight Hall, and the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale. On April 3rd - 4th, 2025, this event will virtually bring together Yale’s entrepreneurs in two days packed with pitches, prizes, and world-changing ideas. Over $150k of prizes will be awarded to the finalists. 2025 LEAP Student Grant Program Call for Applications | The Law, Environment & Animals Program (LEAP) at Yale Law School invites applications for its student grant program. Applicants may work individually or in teams. The grant program supports student-led research and creative projects that advance understanding of, draw attention to, and/or develop strategies to address the urgent threats facing non-human animals. All current Yale students can submit proposals for term time and summer projects. For details on how to apply, see the LEAP website. Funding awards can range from $250 to $2,000. The deadline for submitting a proposal is Friday, March 28, 2025 at 12 pm ET. Decisions will be made by mid-April 2025. Projects should be completed by December 1, 2025, though this deadline is flexible for longer-term projects. More information can be found on LEAP’s website. Public Humanities Grant Program | Offers small grants of $250–3,000 for public humanities projects broadly related to the environment. Read news items about some past grant projects here. SeniorsFoodCorps AmeriCorps | A national nonprofit empowering kids to thrive through nourishing food and food eduction. Members spend 11 months teaching kids about gardening and nutrition, supporting school cafeterias, and collaborating with educators to create environments where fresh, nourishing food is the norm. A $33,000 stipend for 11 months, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), and an AmeriCorps Segal Education Award upon completing service. Food Education Members focus on teaching kids about gardening, nutrition, and food systems. They maintain school gardens, lead classroom lessons, and inspire a love for fresh, nourishing food through hands-on activities. School Nutrition Members collaborate with school cafeteria teams to improve access to nourishing food. They lead taste tests, support cafeteria staff, and help create welcoming spaces for students to enjoy meals. Details here.
