Leinster Schools Senior Cup Victory

At the start of the year we set ourselves a goal: to win the Leinster Schools Senior Cup. So walking into the dressing room on the day itself, we were so proud as a team to have made it to the final. We had all trained hard going into this match, so we were confident in our ability to play our best and win. We were excited to play in front of our school, friends, and family at such an important match while also knowing we could make history at The High School.

Getting Navya Nayak over the line for the first try was a great start to the match, hyping up the crowd and calming our nerves on the pitch. The game was tight until our No 8, Elisa MacGabhann, got a yellow card for what was a team mistake. Ardscoil na Tríonóide came back into the match with two tries, taking the lead 12-5. Jane Aigboboh showed her speed and power when she broke through the line to score a well-earned solo try. Maya Neely crucially kicked two extra points levelling the score 12-12 at half time.

We started off strongly in the second half making our way towards their try line. Joanne Aigboboh powered over giving us the lead again. Our opponents scored a breakaway try putting them ahead 19-17. Huddling behind posts, we had a team chat which helped us keep focused. Our bodies were tired but we never stopped competing showing real determination to work together as a team. Finally, Elisa MacGabhann scored a try to bring the score to 19-21 in 66th minute. In the final minutes every player used their last energy to secure a win based on pure grit and determination. When final whistle blew we erupted with excitement.

Lifting the Senior Cup in front of an enthusiastic corwd was an unforgettable moment. We are so proud of inspiring younger girls to play rugby by winning both the Leinster Schools Junior and Senior Cups and making history at The High School.

Junior Drama Triumph

Performing High School Musical Jr was such a fun, memorable experience for the cast, crew, and everyone involved.  We all had so much fun rehearsing over the past few months, perfecting our choreographed dances and practising the fun, upbeat songs. We worked so hard in our rehearsals and in the last weeks, we saw all that hard work coming together. Tickets for the play sold out very quickly, and we were excited to be performing for a full house on the night. We were fortunate to have stage lights for our show which made the performance even better. Overall, it was such a great experience, and we all had so much fun in Junior Drama this year.

Congratulations to members of The High School Form 1 XV who won the Metropolitan County Council Cup hosted by Leinster Rugby for the first time in the history of the school.  We warmly congratulate the team on the significance of its achievements in 2025-26 and wish all members of the squad every success in future competitions.

Water Polo Success

Congratulations to Rachel Quinn and Carla Millar who were part of the Half Moon Water Polo Team that won the Irish U16 Cup in Belfast on 28 March. The Half Moon team showcased exceptional skill and teamwork to secure the prestigious title. Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off, bringing pride and glory to The High School. Congratulations to our pupils and the entire water polo team for this well-deserved success!

UCD Ad Astra Scholarship

We are delighted to have been advised by University College Dublin that Eoin Kelly (HSD, 2018-24) has been awarded an Ad Astra scholarship in the Performing Arts category.  We offer our warmest congratulations to our past pupil and wish him continued success at third level.

Dodder Clean-Up

On Wednesday 25 March, our dedicated team gathered to clean up the area around the Dodder River. Together, we successfully removed 2.12 kg of rubbish from the hillside and along the riverbank. This effort not only helps to keep our environment clean but also protects the local wildlife that call this area home. If you would like to feature these cleanup efforts in an upcoming newsletter, please let us know so we can provide more details and possibly share some photographs of our progress.

HSD Orienteering Success

A huge well done to The High School orienteering group which took individual and team wins in two age groups at the Leinster Schools Orienteering Championships held in Trooperstown Woods, near Laragh in Co Wicklow, held in bitingly cold conditions (including snow!) on Wednesday 25 March.

In the 1st Year boys category, Jack O’Byrne, Felix Song, and Jaden Nao finished second, third, and fourth backed up by James Whelan in sixth, Blaise McSweeney (for Sam Poskitt) in seventh, and Ethan Blackwell in sixteenth place (of 44 finishers), meaning that The High School team were clear winners in the team category.  A clear individual winner of the Form 4 boys category was Karl Findlay with a score of 520 - the only 500+ score of the competition. Finishing sixth of the Form 4 girls was Laura Geraghty who visited the most controls of any competitor but picked up time penalties.

A big thank you goes to Mr Malin for arranging the bus and to Mr Spain for helping out. A great day for the school!

Form 2 Irish

In Irish class we watched a documentary about Moya Brennan, who died this week. As a member of Clannad, she brought the Irish language and Celtic culture to a global audience, most notably through achieving the first internationally successful popular hit in Irish. We listened to some of her music and experienced firsthand the cultural wealth of Irish heritage.

Hockey Victories

It was a great end to the hockey season for our Form 6 players: the Senior 2 team won the recent friendly against Wesley College 2-1 and the Senior 1 team defeated Newpark Comprehensive School 5-2 in the League. Thanks to all our teams, and especially our Form 6 hockey players, for their commitment over the last six years.
