Note from the REI wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing you at the banquet! We’re already working on things for
2023, so as we have news, we’ll make sure to let you know.
Keep it Classy Susquehanna,
Melissa
From the Editor's DeskIt's currently about 4F (-15C for you cultured folks) outside, so I suppose we can officially call it "cold". But weather aside, it's that time of the year when people are giving gifts, planning resolutions, and well, prepping for the next racing season. I'll be looking forward to seeing you all at this year's banquet, details below! PS, check your tire pressure -- and don't forget the spare. And don't forget to bring the race
tires indoors, because if you're cold, they're cold. When in doubt - throttle out
(until it spins, then both feet in),
Jake

RallyCross Is a Blast, and These Videos Prove ItDEC 19, 2022 — “Oh man it’s fun! It doesn’t get much more fun than that!” And with that enthusiastic endorsement from RallyCross National Champion Bret Hunter, a promotional video produced by SCCA kicks off two minutes of unadulterated RallyCross eye candy. With dirt flying and cars sliding, RallyCross is one of SCCA’s most cherished hidden gems. It’s like autocross,
but crazier because traction is limited, sliding is encouraged, and every run counts toward the driver’s total score – to win in SCCA RallyCross, competitors need to be fast and accurate, run after run after run.
SCCA National Convention Schedule AvailableDEC 15, 2022 — While many assume the Sports Car Club of America is built around hosting motorsports events, it’s the gathering of people that built the Club. The first official SCCA meeting took place on Feb. 26, 1944. Nearly 10 months later, on Saturday, Dec. 16, 1944, SCCA hosted yet another gathering, but this time it was dubbed the first Annual Meeting. Seven Club members attended that gathering, but word of the SCCA was spreading. By 1950, the Annual Meeting
attracted 125 members, with 200 showing up for the evening’s dinner. In modern times, the Annual Meeting is followed by the SCCA National Convention – and in 2023, the whole shebang will be held virtually and for free, as it was in 2021 and ’22. If attendance in 2023 rivals that of the previous convention, expect north of 800 members to register.
The Coolest of School Field TripsDEC 22, 2022 — Think back to your field trips during high school. Perhaps there was a visit to the nearby zoo, city hall, or maybe the state capital. But how many of us had a field trip to a racetrack for a fantastic learning experience that involved having #funwithcars? In September, more than a dozen students from the Automotive Technology program at Medina Valley High School in Castroville, TX, loaded into a
school bus and traveled about 80 miles to Harris Hill Raceway (H2R) in San Marcos, TX. Their afternoon outing was geared toward learning more about motorsports thanks to SCCA’s Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack (TNiA). Russell Alvarez, an instructor with the Automotive Technology program who is familiar with TNiA, reached out to event organizers beforehand to set up the visit, and was instrumental in having minor waiver forms filled out in advance.
Time Trials National Tour 2023 Event ScheduleDEC 13, 2022 — The Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty (TTNT) is about to enter its fifth season – that means 2023 will see a continuation of the quest for speed, mechanical creativity, and personal development for drivers. Certainly, the program’s pursuit of flat-out fun at each event will endure,
too. Seven different TTNT gatherings are part of the 2023 calendar, plus the Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty, which continues the tradition of drivers lapping NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, KY.
2022 Event ScheduleNo more events for 2022 -- keep an eye out, we'll post the 2023 schedule as soon as it is finalized!
