Dear Friend,

We hope this note finds you in good spirits!

We are writing to share news of an important leadership transition at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies.

After years of devoted service, Rick Henning has decided to retire and step down as Executive Director. Under Rick’s thoughtful and steady leadership, BCBS has flourished, experiencing remarkable growth and stability.

    Together, we have:

    • Expanded our programs to reach more people seeking the Dharma,

    • Improved and lovingly maintained our campus,

    • Increased access to financial assistance for those in need,

    • Grown our endowment to sustain our future, and

    • Nurtured the vibrant community that remains at the heart of BCBS.

Thanks to Rick’s stewardship, BCBS is stronger than ever. With stable finances, a thriving campus, diverse and impactful programs, and an exceptional team of teachers, staff, and supporters, we are well-positioned to step into this next chapter with confidence, care, and optimism.

Rick’s retirement marks the close of a transformative chapter and the opening of an exciting new one. The BCBS Board of Directors has begun the search for a new Executive Director who will continue to build on the solid foundation Rick and this community have so thoughtfully cultivated. During this transition, our operations will continue seamlessly, and we remain committed to offering a refuge for wisdom, practice, and community.

We are deeply grateful for Rick’s extraordinary leadership and for the support, friendship, and generosity of each of you. BCBS thrives because of this community—your dedication sustains our mission and keeps this precious place and practice alive for the benefit of all beings.

As we embark on this transition, we will keep you updated every step of the way. You can find updates on our Executive Director Transition webpage. We also encourage you to share the Executive Director job opportunity with anyone who may be interested in this impactful and fulfilling role. Together, we will identify a leader who will carry forward the mission and vision of BCBS.

In the meantime, please join us in extending our heartfelt gratitude to Rick for his years of service, vision, and care.

        With deep gratitude,
