ITHS RESEARCH CONNECTOR MAY 2026
SCROLL DOWN FOR NEW FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES!
ITHS is proud to announce a new collection of resources meant for research teams building new networks! The ITHS Resource Library for Practice-Based Research Networks. was created after nearly two decades of experience building and managing the WWAMI Region Practice and Research Network (WPRN) and is a collection of: - Policies
- Procedures
- Templates, and
- Tools
WPRN associate director Dr. Sebastian Tong hopes the PBRN Resource Library will help other practice-based networks get established without having to start from scratch: The PBRN Resource Library builds on our many years of experience conducting community-engaged and practice-based research in our WWAMI region. We hope that this toolkit can serve as a foundation for new and emerging PBRNs as they build their infrastructure to engage their communities and practices.
Our hope is that it's useful to Clinical and Translational Research Development Award (CTR-D) teams building new networks, but it is also useful for any group developing or managing practice-based research networks.
Several ITHS contributors made waves at the ACTS Translational Science 2026 (TS26) in April, including three TL1 trainees. The four-day event, held this year in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, always brings together CTSA leaders at every level to amplify emerging voices in translational science and clinical research for scientific sessions, networking, and collaboration.
ITHS & COMOTION SPOTTED @ LIFE SCIENCE INNOVATION NWITHS and CoMotion were represented at Life Science Innovation Northwest - the Pacific Northwest’s premier life science event. This April conference brought the region’s innovators into one room to showcase today’s most compelling discoveries and tomorrow’s
biggest opportunities. With 654 registered attendees, more than 80 company and research institution presentations, and over 35 poster presenters, this year’s event was a tremendous success!

VirtualApplications are now open for the Grant Writing Program for Clinicians and Junior Faculty! This 12-week online course is supported by ITHS, the UW School of Medicine and the UW School of Public Health to help clinical and non-clinical new investigators create a completely written R- or K-type grant that is ready for submission to a funding organization. Click to apply to the Grant Writing Program >>> Applications due May 29
July 6 - Sept 13
VirtualToo often, research is done on communities rather than with them. This online course from the University of Washington Department of Global Health E-Learning Program introduces Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) as a practical, equity-focused approach to designing research in true partnership with communities. Learn more about the CBPR course >>> Participant applications due May 14
May 18-20, 9am-3:30pm MST
HybridJoin the annual Health Experiences Research Network (HERN) training, hosted by the University of New Mexico, and learn about bringing patient stories into your research and using rigorous, team-based, qualitative methods. Learn more and register for the Research Network Training >>>

WRF Capital is the investment vehicle for Washington Research Foundation.
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) was founded to bridge the gap between discovery and public benefit by supercharging development through significant financial and management support.
The ITHS REDCap Tips and Tricks series is designed to support researchers get the most out of REDCap in their translational science work. For the May installment, the focus is on action tags, a tool that provides more control to customize REDCap forms and surveys. What’s an action tag? An action tag is a specialized term beginning with the @ sign that is placed in a field’s Field Annotation box to customize how that field behaves or appears on data entry forms and surveys. Each tag triggers a specific action, such as auto-populating values, hiding fields, or enforcing data entry limits.
Access the Tips and Tricks within TREE to find more details about each of the above action tags including screen shots and additional information.
We want to hear about your accomplishments, updates, interesting projects, and all the incredible things you are doing across ITHS! Have a success story to share? Fill out the form linked here >>>
The Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) moves research from one phase of the translational science spectrum to the next, and helps others to do the same. From bench to bedside: we take great ideas and help turn them into reality with the aim of improving health outcomes across the spectrum.
