Breast Cancer Awareness
Today Form 4 pupils organised an wonderful morning of St Valentine’s Day celebrations. Everyone received their own Valentine’s card with special messages inside. Pupils and teachers wore pink and red for the non-uniform day. The event was organised in support of Breast Cancer Ireland who supplied us with ribbon broaches and pink ribbons. Positivity was everywhere and it was lots of fun. The catering staff even got involved by making pink themed foods. What a worthwhile cause and a fantastic way to begin half term. Form 4 Drama
On St Valentine’s Day the Form 4 drama class went on a trip into the city centre to visit the Lir theatre. Accompanied by Mr Milofsky and Ms Harrison, we took a tour of the Lir and learned much about the work that goes on there with the lighting, stage design, prop making, directing, acting, and costume design. It was really interesting to see all of the technical details that go on behind the scenes in the world of drama as we have spent the last few weeks in class learning about it. The tour guides were so lovely and charismatic. Everybody had lots of questions to ask and we all had a fantastic time. We then walked around Trinity College and had lunch on the grounds. Mr Milofsky shared many facts with us about the Samuel Beckett
Theatre and about studying drama at Trinity College. Junior Rugby Success
Congratulations to the Junior rugby team who were crowned winners again at the Leinster School Girls' blitz held on Wednesday afternoon. Another unbeaten run puts them top of the points table. Well done, everyone! Locker Spring Clean
It's St Valentine's Week at The High School and time to show our lovely red and black lockers some tender loving care! Lockers are a home from home for pupils and many take great care in making them a minature version of their own study spaces. However, over time they can become crowded with books and materials that are no longer needed. Please take some time before half term to empty your locker as routine maintenance will take place over half term and anything items left in lockers will be recycled, donated to charity, or disposed of. Minor A Hockey Win
We played St Gerard's School on Saturday morning winning 2-1. The early start did not dampen our spirits and in the first half Zoe Williamson scored from a short corner. It was Sadhbh Fitzgibbon Dunne's turn to score in the second half but there was no time to rest on our laurels. The opposition scored suddenly raising the temperature of the game and reducing our lead. The match ended in high drama when our opponents almost stole another goal in the last few minutes of play. But ultimately we were the victors and earned ourselves a place in the semi-final of the plate competition. Form 2 Art
Here are some images of my Classroom Based Assessment (CBA) notebook for Art. I chose love heart sweets to study as part of my Art CBA because I thought they were unique and I hadn't really used anything of the sort as a source before. I have never drawn foods or heart patterns before and I thought it was sort of sweet! The techniques I used depended on the materials I had access to, but I always kept the final project in mind which will be a lino print. I particularly focused on conveying tone and contrast in all of the drawings.
World Book Day
The High School will celebrate World Book Day on 3 March during our first week back after the half term break. This year we are asking that pupils take a photograph of their pet or teddy "reading" a book and send them to Ms Wiggle in the Library. Winning photographs will be published on HSD social media channels and in the Erasmian and Diocesan Times. Form 2 RugbyPupils in Form 2 who play rugby have been improving at a rate of knots! Their attitude and skills have really seen a notable improvement. The A and B teams have had a mixed run in recent weeks: the Bs beat St Mary's College while the As narrowly lost against St Andrew's College.
