CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PREVIOUS TL1 COHORT Say cheese! This snapshot comes from this spring's TL1 Summit in Bozeman, Montana during their poster presentations. Keep up the fantastic work, TL1s & ITHS Education team! ITHS ACCOLADES RECOGNIZING LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN KIDNEY DISEASE RESEARCH The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) is recognizing ITHS Co-Principal Investigator and Providence Executive Director for Research Katherine Tuttle, MD, FASN, FACP, FNKF, with a lifetime achievement award for her extraordinary contributions to kidney disease research and advancements across academic medicine. Dr. Tuttle was named the 2023 John P. Peters Award honoree in late May. This is one of the most significant accolades for a nephrologist, a physician who specializes in care and treatment of kidney disease. Dr. Tuttle’s collective work has fundamentally impacted treatment approaches to chronic kidney disease, shaping scientific discovery, clinical trials, and patient treatment across the world. Congratulations Dr. Tuttle!
HONORING HEALTH EQUITY LEADERSHIP AT ITHS Dr. Allison Cole received the 2023 Beti Thompson Cancer Health Equity Research Award from the Fred Hutch Cancer Center this spring. This award recognizes outstanding scientists from the Fred Hutch/University of Washington Cancer Consortium who has made significant contributions to cancer health equity research and the scientific understanding of the etiology, detection, diagnosis, treatment or prevention of cancer health inequities. Dr. Cole’s dedication to addressing health disparities throughout the WWAMI region is a testament to who she is as a researcher, and our team is thrilled to see her recognized at this moment. Congratulations Dr. Cole! ITHS RECRUITMENT RESOURCES SUPPORTING YOUR RECRUITMENT EFFORTS The ITHS Recruitment Support Service is available to those facing these challenges, to provide strategic, project-specific recruitment advice and help research teams meet enrollment goals. Too often, challenges with participant enrollment result in clinical research studies closing prior to completion or remaining open past intended completion date, creating potential study risks without contributing any new knowledge around the study questions being addressed. Contact the ITHS Recruitment Support Service to discuss and develop approaches to recruitment for both new and ongoing clinical studies. Click below to learn more and sign up for a free consultation! TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES & EVENTS STATISTICAL GENETICS SYMPOSIUM 2023
There is a growing awareness of the societal implications of recent advances in genomic technologies and statistical methodology. The 2023 Symposium in Statistical and Quantitative Genetics will complement the concurrent Summer Institute in Statistical Genetics, and the University of Washington strengths in Biostatistics, Genome Sciences and Public Health Genetics. Leading researchers will present their current work in invited talks. Attendees interested in contributing a poster presentation should indicate this when registering. Submissions are due July 5. TEAM SCIENCE SEMINAR SERIES: ALL COURSES NOW AVAILABLE At noon on the first Thursday of each month since last October, the ITHS Team Science group has been hosting the Team Science Seminar Series, with sessions focusing on topics such as building and leading teams, handling conflict, multi-PI grants and designing research for health equity. The seminars have proven to be quite popular with ITHS members, who attended live or watched online when their busy schedules allow. Now, the entire series is posted online for anyone who wants to partake. Full class list here REDCap TRAINING CLASSESEvery Tuesday @ ONLINE WEBINAR! ITHS offers weekly classes on Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap), a rapidly evolving web tool developed by researchers for researchers in the translational domain.
