What to expect: student lifeIn addition to your studies, there are plenty of exciting opportunities for you to explore to enhance your time at York, as well as plenty of teams and individuals here to support you. To help you get started, your college team has curated a handy reference guide for all the key contacts and college information you may need during your time at university. Get involved with College lifeEvents Make sure to download the MyUoY app to keep up to date with the range of events on offer for you each week! College sport In addition to events, each college has an amazing variety of sports teams open to all levels of ability - making them a great way of meeting new people and staying active. Our Vanbrugh College sport membership gives you access to as many sports as you want! College music Interested in learning an instrument, or finding places to rehearse with others? Our shared college music scheme offers spaces and resources for those with a musical mind - including our instrument lending library, practice rooms, recording studios and more. College committeeLooking to develop your leadership, teamwork or organisational skills? Why not run for a position in our college committee? We hold elections around November - keep an eye on our social media for more information! Each year, colleges elect a student committee to represent you and your community as well as organising a huge range of events and community building activities. This year’s committee has been hard at work planning your Welcome experience - make sure to say hi to them during your move-in and first few weeks! A university degree can sometimes be challenging, but the sooner you ask for support, the sooner we can help you get things back on track. College-based supportYour college teamAs mentioned in our email last week, your college team is a first point of call for support with whatever issues you may be facing. The team can assist with all manner of problems that students face, and if they can’t help they will help you get to the service who can. STYCs / STYMsAll undergraduate residential students will be assigned Second and Third Year Contacts (STYCs) by accommodation block to help you settle in for your first week of university life. Our Second and Third Year Mentor (STYMs) programme continues the support you received throughout Freshers Week with check-ins and events throughout the year. Wider university servicesRegardless of your college membership or course, all students are welcome to use our wider university services. Our Campus Safety team offers 24/7 support to everyone who lives, studies or works at the University, with all members of the team trained in first aid and mental health first aid. We strongly encourage you to also download our SafeZone app, which gives you instant contact with the team at the touch of a button. Our central Student Hub offers advice and support with financial concerns, budgeting advice, academic progress, tenancy agreements and more. For mental health support, our Open Door team and TalkCampus tool are available to offer practitioner and peer support respectively. University of York Students' Union supportIn addition to the University, York Students' Union can offer support and advice on any number of issues that you may face. Before this, we sent all of you an essential to-do list for you to complete before you arrive, including essential documentation.
