VICTORIAN PREMIER VISITS SEYMOUR
Council was pleased to meet with Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes in Seymour on Tuesday 25 October.
The Premier spoke with Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm and fellow Councillors about the ongoing recovery effort in the shire.
Mayor Chisholm thanked the Premier for the Victorian Government’s support of the recovery effort but emphasised that much more would be needed.
The Premier spoke with Seymour Football Netball Club President Gerard O’Sullivan about the fantastic work his club and other volunteers have done to support our community.
He also met Seymour Flexible Learning Centre Principal Shane Elliott and Amy Blades from Araminta’s Tea Rooms to see the devastation of the flooding and to discuss the support available.

Support is just a call away
A flood recovery hotline is a single state-wide number, 1800 560 760, you can call for help or assistance with navigating available support and mental health and well-being support.
The recovery hotline is open from 7.30am to 7.30pm every day.

FLOOD CLEAN UP AND YOUR WELLBEING
After flooding, excess moisture and pooled water can cause mould growth in your property, which can be a health risk. Find out about preventing and safely removing mould here.
Asbestos is present in many houses and floods can cause it to shift or become exposed. Make sure you're cautious when cleaning up flood waste and never leave asbestos on the nature strip. Visit the EPA website for more about asbestos removal.
Seymour Resource Recovery Centre has extended days and hours for October and some dates in November. This service is free for flood waste. Hours are available on our website.
Recovery support officers are available at the Seymour Customer and Library Service Centre.

IMPACTED ROADS
Drive to the conditions
We have sustained significant damage across our road network, with more than 50 roads closed since the flood began and around 350 call outs.
A number of these roads are still not safe or accessible.
Road closure signs are there for your safety, never tamper or move a road closure sign or drive around it.

If you require flood assistance, please call the SES on 132 500, or 000 in a life-threatening emergency.

FREE ASSESSMENTS
Check your building is safe
After a flood or storm, you will need to check your building for structural damage, gas leaks, contaminated water, damaged septic tanks and more.
Properties destroyed or damaged in the floods can be cleared of hazards, and made safe, at no cost by calling the Flood Recovery Hotline on 1800 560 760.
The clean-up program will assess damage to structures and provide detailed assessment reports.
It also offers the option of demolition for eligible structures that are damaged beyond repair.

STATE ELECTION CANDIDATES FORUM
|
Chance to ask questions of local candidates
The North Central Review is hosting candidate forums in the lead-up to the November state election.
The forums will provide the public the opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from the candidates.
The first forum will be in Seymour on Tuesday 8 November from 7pm to 9pm.
The second will be in Wallan on Wednesday 9 November from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

MARIE WILLIAMS KILMORE FAMILY AND CHILDRENS CENTRE
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes officially opened the Marie Williams Kilmore Family and Childrens Centre on Thursday 27 October.
The project saw the existing Marie Williams Kindergarten and Kilmore Maternal and Child Health Centre combined into one centre.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY SERVICE CHANGES
There will be some changes to Council services for the public holiday on Tuesday 1 November.

There is no change to kerbside bin collection days, please put your bins out as usual.

All resource recovery centres are open on Tuesday 1 November. View the resource recovery centre opening hours here.

Council offices and customer and library service centres closed.

Our leisure centres are open from 10am to 2pm.

The Seymour Visitor Information Centre is closed until further notice due to flood damage.
Our 24/7 after hours emergency services will operate on public holidays and after hours for lost pets, contained dog pick ups and urgent hazards such trees on road or livestock on road.

BINS ARE CHANGING

Kerbside bins in Mitchell Shire are changing and we want to hear from you.
In 2025 a weekly food scraps and garden clippings kerbside collection, plus a glass recycling service in will introduced and general rubbish collection will be scaled back to a fortnightly service.

Council is offering a Compost Bin and Worm Farm subsidy until the end of November.
Residents can claim up to 50 per cent back for any compost bin or worm farm purchased at one of our participating retailers.

Festive spirit in Kilmore
Kilmore Christmas Carols is on at Hudson park on Saturday 17 December.
There will be food trucks, market Stalls, animals, live entertainment and carols from 7pm.
Rumour has it that Santa will also be making a special appearance.

GARDEN OPEN DAY
A day in the garden in Kilmore
Kilmore Community Garden Inc is hosting an open day on Saturday 29 October from 10.30am to 2.20pm at Kilmore Community Garden.
The event will include a mini market, with a small number of stalls from local small businesses, mini information sessions and a speech from Dr Kaylene Evers about the importance of community connection.
