Hi , In 2023, CheckUP is celebrating 25 years of creating healthier communities. To mark this milestone we have some exciting events coming up, including a CheckUP Outreach Forum and a Gala Dinner. Please save the date for Friday 8 September, as we will be releasing more details on these events soon. We look forward to commemorating this occasion with you and having the opportunity to thank you for your contributions. We have launched our 2023 Outreach Provider Survey. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us and we would love to hear how we can better support you and your team. The survey questions also touch on what topics you may like to see discussed at our upcoming events like the Outreach Forum. More information about the survey can be found in this newsletter. CheckUP will be hosting a Queensland Primary Health Care Network event on Thursday 1 June to mark National Reconciliation Week. Our Annual Photo Competition is back for 2023 and we want to see your best shots capturing the unique landscapes, communities, and people of Queensland and the Northern Territory! Queensland Mental Health Week Community Events Grant Program More than $100,000 worth of grants are being made available in 2023 to help organisations across the state host Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) events that raise awareness of mental health, bolster belonging, and create connections. Funded by the Queensland Government through the Queensland Mental Health Commission and administered by CheckUP, the QMHW Community Events Grant Program provides the opportunity for eligible organisations to apply for up to $3000 to assist with event costs. Applications close on Friday 26 May. Staff spotlight: Donna Glover Donna joined the CheckUP team earlier this year, working on the Youth Industry Partnerships for Education and Employment project (YIPEE), which is funded by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT). Donna works with schools and the local health industry in the Far North Queensland region to develop partnerships to support more effective school-to-work transitions, with a significant proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Provider profile: Talk HQ Speech Therapy TalkHQ speech pathology offer a range of play-based therapy services for children who may be experiencing challenges communicating with the world around them. TalkHQ have a number of locations across Queensland, and as Outreach providers they visit the rural communities of Hughenden, Middlemount and Dysart. Strengthening Medicare - General Practice Grants Program Last month The Australian Government announced the $220 million Strengthening Medicare – General Practice (GP) Grants Program. The program will allow all General Practices and eligible Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) to expand patient access and improve their services. First Nations Support Line has launched nationally Hearing Australia has launched it's First Nations Support Line nationally. The Support Line is offering free telephone and email support on general ear and hearing health information for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. General practice strengthening health assessment pathways for children in out-of-home care According to Children’s Health Queensland (CHQ), nine out of ten children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) have unmet health needs. Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN works in partnership with local stakeholders to improve access to primary health care for this vulnerable group. They have a number of helpful resources that help enable health professionals to make every contact count with children and young people in OOHC.
