NWTD News - December 2025

As Tasmania’s energy demands increase, TasNetworks needs to strengthen the state’s electricity transmission network. The North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) include new and upgraded transmission lines, substations and switching stations.

The project will support new renewable energy developments and generate significant benefits and opportunities for Tasmanian communities and businesses. Watch explainer video

Thank you for your engagement and support

As we wrap up 2025, the NWTD team would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to landholders, community members, and stakeholders who have worked with us throughout the year. Your involvement, feedback, and support have been invaluable in helping us progress toward key milestones and deliver on our commitments.

Wishing you a safe and joyful holiday season and a bright start to the new year!

Looking ahead to 2026

NWTD will help deliver significant advantages for Tasmania: clean energy careers, the lowest possible power prices, strong climate action, and enough electricity to support our state and the nation’s growing energy needs. As we move closer to construction in early 2026, we look forward to continued collaboration with landholders, community and stakeholders.

Our head contractor Genus remains committed to employing Tasmanians and engaging the services of Tasmanian businesses throughout the delivery of the project, creating jobs and maximising economic growth across the region.

Early next year, we will launch our Community Benefits Sharing Program, providing $10 million in funding during the construction period for initiatives that deliver real benefits to communities located in the footprint of stage one of NWTD. Our first step will be recruiting an Independent Assessment Panel for the Program - ensuring local voices guide how these benefits are shared. Stay tuned for exciting updates in January’s e-news!
