We're starting this issue of the Research Connector with a collection of notable honors from our leaders and contributors. ITHS is proud of our collaborators and partners as we recognize their incredible achievements in science and medicine.
Bonnie Ramsey honored by American Pediatric SocietyBonnie Ramsey, MD, ITHS Co-Principal Investigator Emerita, has been announced as the winner of the 2025 American Pediatric Society John Howland Award. This award, the highest honor bestowed by the society, was given to recognize Dr. Ramsey for her significant contributions to advancing child health and the profession of pediatrics. Dr. Ramsey has dedicated her research and clinical career to treating patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), establishing outcome measures and developing study designs that are now the standards used in the field. Her work contributed to improving dramatically the predicted life expectancy of children with CF as well as their quality of life. Congratulations to Dr. Ramsey! Read more >>>
Nora Disis Honored By the University of WashingtonITHS founder Nora Disis was recently honored as the UW School of Medicine Inventor of the Year for her work developing
cancer vaccines. Among her many other academic and advisory roles, Dr. Disis serves as director of the Cancer Vaccine Insitute and studies the development of vaccine and cellular therapy for the treatment and prevention of common malignancies. She holds several patents in cancer immunotherapy and diagnostics. Dr. Disis has also been named an inaugural member of CoMotion's Entrepreneurial Faculty Forum (EFF). EFF members will mentor UW faculty with entrepreneurial aspirations, help demystify and smooth out the startup formation process, and foster connections inside and outside the university. Lynn Rose Honored with Martha Feldman AwardITHS faculty member Lynn Rose, PhD, has been honored with the 2024 Martha Feldman Award by the Organization of Regulatory and Clinical Associates (ORCA). The award, named for the founder of ORCA, honors a Washington individual who has contributed to the field of regulatory affairs and clinical trials, supported colleagues, and advanced the understanding of regulatory affairs and clinical trials among professionals and the public. Apply for Primate Center Pilot Awards nowThe Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) is pleased to sponsor the Ignition Award pilot study program, focusing on
the use of nonhuman primate (NHP) models of human disease. We anticipate funding two awards of up to $75k each. Proposals should focus on translational applications or development or enhancement of the use of NHPs as animal models. Letter of Intent Due November 15.

2025 Pilot Awards Now AvailableThe ITHS offers Catalyst Awards to provide “just-in-time” resources especially to early
career investigators looking to complete a project or collect pilot data for a larger grant application. The ITHS also offers Voucher Awards as “in-kind” service vouchers in support of outstanding translational research.
GCTL Connect with the ITHS Gene & Cell Therapy LabThe ITHS Gene and Cell Therapy Lab, a cGMP Manufacturing Facility located in the University of Washington Medical Center, provides comprehensive bench-to-bedside cGMP services for investigator- and industry-sponsored
studies. Their 2200 sq.ft. clean room facility has four ISO 7 suites to develop and manufacture gene modified or ex-vivo manipulated cells for novel gene and cell therapy products. The GCTL is conveniently close to a dedicated adult Clinical Research Center, the ITHS Translational Research Unit. Please contact the GCTL if you are interested in a collaboration to accelerate the translation of your innovative cell and gene therapies from bench to clinic!

TL1 COHORT Introducing the 2024–2025 TL1 TraineesITHS is excited to welcome a new group of outstanding researchers to the TL1 Translational Research Training Program. The program has accepted 19 predoctoral trainees from Montana State University and the University of Washington. These up and coming translational scientists come from a diverse variety health-related programs, from medicine, public health and microbiology to engineering,

CALL FOR LOI: TRAINING OPPORTUNITY
The University of Washington, the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, and diverse primary care organizations across Washington state are partnering to train the next generation of independent scientists. The LHS E-STAR Center provides an exciting opportunity for early-career scientists to receive training and
mentorship to build their skills and experience in transforming primary care. Early-career scientists who become LHS E-STAR scholars will receive multidisciplinary, didactic, and experiential training in LHS core competencies while leading embedded research projects at primary care organizations. Check out this Call for Letters of Interest (LOI) for a training opportunity at the E-STAR Center and read about the first cohort of scholars here. You are encouraged to share the instructions for the LOI with early career faculty and postdocs who may be interested in this exciting opportunity. All LOI materials will be due on November 15, 2024. The Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) has launched its 2025 scholarship and grant opportunities that aim to address insufficient representation and diversity within the clinical research workforce. ACRP is offering scholarships to minority students in undergraduate and graduate programs to build their clinical research skills. They are also offering continuing education grants for clinical
