![]() Hi everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the Tasmanian summer and benefiting from all of the busy market days. Although I miss seeing everyone every Saturday, rain, hail or shine, I am still enjoying visiting the market when I can, just to enjoy the atmosphere, the food and see all of the regular faces. It certainly is an amazing place this time of year. I hope you will all join me in congratulating Henry Fagg on his recent appointment to the position of Senior Advisor Salamanca Market Operations. As you all may know, Henry has been acting in this role for quite a few months now, and has been an incredible asset to the whole team and the market crew each Saturday. This is a great result for the market and will ensure that the background operations and logistics continue to run smoothly each week. We have been receiving a few requests for long absences at the market from stallholders planning to take extended leave or holidays, particularly in the lead up to winter trading. There may be some confusion about how absences work, so we have provided some information in the article below. Also included below is some information from the Salamanca Market Stallholders Association (SMSA) who are actively looking for new members to join. The SMSA meets regularly with the City of Hobart and the market team, and is a great way to meet other stallholders and raise any ideas or questions you might have about the market. And finally, we have included a very touching tribute for Kim, written by one of our stallholders, Simon from Pewter Designs. It's a reminder of just how wonderful our stallholders are, for their smiles, their spirits and the warmth they bring to the market each week. Our condolences to friends, families and fellow stallholders. Robert Matson - City Welcome Manager ![]() Absences - what are they? What do I do if I can't attend the Market on a Saturday? If you can't attend the market on a Saturday, please contact the Market Admin team on (03) 6238 2430 during the week, or if on a Saturday, please phone or send a text message to the Duty Supervisor on 0419 482 675.
As stallholders essentially lease a stall site from the City and are independently employed, the market does not provide any form of sick leave, personal leave or long service leave. In rare cases, an application for exceptional leave may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Consideration may be given after the 8 absences are exhausted. ![]() Housekeeping A few housekeeping items have been brought to the crew’s attention recently in relation to packing up early, trading inside your boundary and cleaning and waste disposal. Please take some time to read through these items in the Stallholder Operational Requirements Handbook. A copy of the handbook was handed out to all stallholders in 2024, but please let us know if you require another copy. Don't pack up early! A reminder that it is important to continue trading at your stall until the market finishes at 3 pm. This is important, as visitors arriving late to the market may feel rushed and disappointed, and often won't enjoy their visit, especially if it's being packed down around them. You may also miss out on valuable sales. Stallholders may begin to pack down their stall equipment after 2.30 pm, but no earlier. Stallholders must still be able to serve customers from their stall until 3 pm, as instructed in the Stallholder Operational Handbook. ![]() Welcome to our new crew! We are excited to introduce our newest members to the Salamanca Market Crew! You may have seen Oskar Henry, Marcus Boost, Sammie Chau and Danielle Kannegiesser on one of their first shifts at the market in recent weeks. Please join us in welcoming them and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance during setup or pack down. ![]() Join the SMSA The Salamanca Market Stallholders Association works with the City of Hobart to support stallholders' concerns and issues.
