Uniting Church Responds to Bondi Beach AttackThe Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) expresses its deep sorrow following the attack at Bondi Beach, which NSW Police have identified as a terrorist act. Uniting Church in Australia President Rev Charissa Suli has today released a statement in response to the tragic events that took place at Bondi Beach on Sunday 14 December 2025. "We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community and commit ourselves again to compassion, peace, and care for one another. We reaffirm our commitment to stand with our Jewish friends against hatred, violence, and fear." Rev Suli has also offered a pastoral message and prayer saying "we hold in prayer all who have been affected — those who have lost loved ones, those who are injured and recovering, the first responders and health workers, and the wider community carrying shock and grief." UCA President's Christmas MessagesUniting Church in Australia President Rev Charissa Suli has offered two Christmas messages to the community this year. The President's main Christmas message is one of light and action, reminding us of the profound mystery at the heart of our faith: God chose to draw near, entering our world not in power but as a vulnerable child. Rev Suli has also offered a Blue Christmas message, for those carrying grief this season. "Emmanuel – God with us – enters precisely into our darkness, not to erase our pain but to abide with us in it." Both video messages and transcripts are available to download and share in your communities. On this web page you will also find Christmas messages from Synod Moderators as they become available. The Uniting Church WA Christmas message will be released later this week. May Peace Prevail on EarthMargaret River Uniting Church are bringing a message of peace to their local community this Christmas, which has centred on the unveiling of a Peace Pole in the grounds of the church. Peace Poles are recognised as a prominent international symbol and monument to peace. The story of how this project in Margaret River came about speaks to the beautiful potential for collaborative co-operation among the local community for the promotion of peace.
