Picture: Community volunteers got their hands dirty and helped plant 540 native trees, shrubs and grasses along the Kilmore creek on Sunday 31 July as part of National Tree Day.

CONTRAST ART PROGRAM EXHIBITION

The work of young artists was on display at the Contrast Art Program exhibition in Seymour on Thursday 4 August. 

Contrast is a free eight-week art program for young people aged between 12-18 with a connection to Seymour. 

The program ran every Thursday at Our Place Seymour and saw young people learn, design and create with help from professional artists and art therapists.

It's Landcare Week - an annual celebration of landcare that acknowledges the many people across Australia who are actively restoring, enhancing and protecting the natural environment in the community.

Australian Defence Force personnel will conduct live-fire training at the Puckapunyal Military Area from 8 to 14 August, culminating in a firepower demonstration from 15 to 17 August.

Don't be alarmed if you hear loud bangs or explosions, but people are encouraged to take precautionary measures such as securing anxious animals.

MAYOR IN CANBERRA

Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm joined Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell in Canberra on Wednesday 3 August for key meetings with Federal Ministers.

High on the agenda were the election commitments including delivery of the freeway diamond interchange ramps at Wallan, Camerons Lane Interchange at Beveridge and Roads funding for the region.

Discussions also focused on the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub and its importance to the Shire and broader region as well as Beveridge Intermodel Freight Terminal as a key to employment and road access for the Shire’s growing population.
