One week to go!

There’s just one week to go until you arrive in York! It’s time to talk about what your college has to offer, what to expect on arrivals day if you are living on campus and what happens during your welcome week.

What colleges have to offer

All colleges offer the opportunity to play sport, volunteer, organise events or just relax, socialise and meet new people. All of this is facilitated by our college teams and the Graduate Students' Association (GSA).

Welcome Week

Halifax and the GSA have been busy arranging postgraduate welcome week events and activities for the week beginning Monday 19 September. You can find out more about these in emails from us and by visiting the GSA website.

In addition, from Sunday 25 September you can also take part in the undergraduate Halifax Freshers Week programme. This is a full week of daytime activities as well as club nights. You can find out more on our social media pages and you can purchase a ticket below.

Remember: A number of fake pages and social media accounts attempt to target incoming students each year. Please be aware that the only University-endorsed events are those offered on our website and by our Student Unions (YUSU and GSA).

Arrivals day

We’re really looking forward to meeting you very soon!

If you are moving into accommodation on campus, your official college move in day will be Monday 19 September.

On your arrival, please go to Halifax Reception where college staff and student volunteers will welcome you, help you pick up your keys and find your accommodation block.

Please make sure to tell us if you plan to arrive later in the week as this helps us to better manage the number of students moving in at a time. More information can be found in our previous email, linked at the bottom of this message, or via our arrivals page.

Important update: Following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, please be aware that Monday 19 September will be considered a bank holiday in the UK, and bank holiday hours may apply on travel and other services. Please check your travel arrangements before starting your journey.

The University remains open over this period, and your college team will be here to welcome you if you are arriving on that day. Any arrangements and transport arranged by the University will continue as planned, however, please note University food outlets will operate a reduced service. If you are unsure about anything, or were due to travel but are now unable to get here on Monday 19 September, please get in touch with your college team by replying to this email.
