Gateway-2-Health is a project newsletter providing updates and key information on the Health Gateway to Industry Schools project being delivered by CheckUP. Our project team is working closely with Queensland schools and health industry employers to promote career pathways and support students' understanding of the varied and in-demand roles in the health sector. We will also help to facilitate learning and experiential opportunities for both students and teachers.

End of year reporting

As you may be aware, the Health Gateway Program is funded by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) and as part of this funding, DESBT require the submission of an annual report from CheckUP. As part of this report, DESBT require some basic statistical information from all Gateway Schools participating in the program including enrolments in VET health qualifications, participation in health gateway activities, teacher professional development, students transitioning to further education and engagement with health services providers and tertiary education institutions.

Therefore, we ask all schools participating in the Health Gateway Program to please complete a short (approximately 5 minutes to complete) online survey by Friday 2 December 2022 to assist with this reporting requirement. It would be greatly appreciated if you could coordinate with fellow staff to ensure only one survey is completed and submitted per school. Please complete the questions to the best of your knowledge and don’t hesitate to contact Sabrina Kerr (sabrinakerr@checkup.org.au) or Kat Murray (kmurrray@checkup.org.au) should you have any questions or concerns at all.

Please complete survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HealthGatewaySchoolsSurvey2022

The Health Gateway Yearbook

We are also asking schools to contribute a small article for the first Health Gateway Yearbook! The Health Gateway Team here at CheckUP would love to share and highlight the fantastic work that our Gateway schools have undertaken over this past year. To do this we have decided to pull together a Health Gateway Yearbook and we are asking each school to please contribute a small article for the yearbook. Please email Sabrina Kerr (sabrinakerr@checkup.org.au) or Kat Murray (kmurray@checkup.org.au) through a couple of paragraphs (maximum of 250 words) and any photos you’d like to be included by 2 December 2022.

Below are some examples of what you might like to contribute:

  • An outstanding student or achievement
  • Opening of or planning of a new health hub
  • An overview of your VET health programs
  • Experiential learning
  • Health related career expos

Informing young people about post-school pathways survey

The Group of Researchers from Griffith University, funded by the Department of Education have been engaged to undertake research to identify ways in which partnerships amongst schools, workplaces and tertiary education institutions can assist in informing young people about and providing experiences to assist their decision-making about postschool pathways. The survey builds upon interviews and case studies that have already been undertaken by a select number of Health Gateway Schools.

The survey is anonymous, although participants can indicate contact details for a draw prize of gift vouchers.

The online link is as below:

https://prodsurvey.rcs.griffith.edu.au/Partnerships-survey

There are two pathways through the survey, one is for school-age children that requires parental consent, and the other is for adults and this includes stakeholders of various kinds.

That's a wrap for 2022!
