News from SCCA Fill Your April-July Weekends With RoadRally FunAPR 17, 2023 — What do you have planned for the next four months? Whether you’re an SCCA® RoadRally superstar or just want to test the waters, this year’s calendar of events is chock full of RoadRally weekends you need to be a part of. Indeed, there are more events coming up than you can possibly attend – but heck, why not try? The listing below contains an impressive dozen Divisional and National RoadRallies for you to try your hand at during the second quarter of 2023. Of those, nine are Tour rallies, two are Course rallies, and one a GTA, meaning there’s something for everyone – especially if you’re hunting for a challenge that stresses timing accuracy and not falling for any of the rallymaster’s tricks. How To Nominate Someone for the SCCA Hall of FameAPR 11, 2023 — Each year, the SCCA® Hall of Fame honors the Club’s brightest stars. From international racing superstars like Carroll Shelby, Bobby Rahal, and Roger Penske to those whose roles were instrumental in the Club’s underlying successes, like William C. Bradshaw, Bill Johnson, and Fred Schmucker, the SCCA Hall of Fame celebrates those who made the SCCA what it is today. But how are those honorees selected? And more importantly, how can you nominate a worthy candidate? The short answer is that any SCCA member can nominate someone for the SCCA Hall of Fame, with those nominations being considered by one of two committees – the Legacy Committee for nominees whose largest impact on the Club came prior to 1961, and the Nomination Committee for all others. Those committees choose nominees to submit to the Selection Committee, which then determines the following year’s inductees for the SCCA Hall of Fame. The bottom line is that it all starts with you and your nomination letter. So what makes for a good nomination? Video: Behind the Scenes at an SCCA Drivers' SchoolAPR 12, 2023 — When it comes to amateur motorsports, the Sports Car Club of America® offers nearly all you can imagine. From Time Trials to RoadRally, autocross, RallyCross, volunteering, and more, there’s something for just about anyone who gets their giggles with cars. While participation is easy once you’re involved, it’s that first step that’s the hardest – especially when it comes to SCCA Road Racing. From finding a drivers' school to locking in a race car, purchasing safety equipment, and wrapping up an assortment of other logistics, there’s a lot to do before heading on track for an SCCA drivers' school. But the truth is, it’s easier than you think – as this video from Spec Miata racer Jake Koeberlein explains. Jake went through San Francisco Region’s drivers' school in 2012 when he was 15-years old, and recently, his friend Alex wanted to do the same, so Jake produced a YouTube video showcasing everything Alex – or anyone looking to attend any SCCA drivers' school – needed to consider. Everything SCCA Can FitAPR 3, 2023 — Why hold one event in a weekend when you can invite everyone to play? It’s that simple-yet-effective concept that thrusts SCCA® mash-up weekends into orbit, leaving participants, workers, and organizers grinning for days. From a driver’s point of view, the paddock is packed, building palpable energy in the paddock and on the track. For the SCCA Region, the events are not only more likely to be profitable, but that same energy ignites the workers, keeping them coming back for more. A mash-up event is everything SCCA can offer at one facility, all in one weekend. If that means a road race, Time Trials, Track Event, autocross, race school, and RoadRally, similar to what Steel Cities Region does for its successful End of Summer Showcase Festival, that’s fantastic. If it’s a Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty, a Track Event, and a local car show, that’s a winning combination as well. ——— Sponsors ———2023 2023 Event ScheduleAutocross Dates: April 29 - Events 1 & 2 May 13 - Events 3 & 4 June 17 - Events 5 & 6 August 12 - Events 7 & 8 September 16 - Events 9 & 10 November 4-5 - Events 11, 12, 13 and the Match Tour Rallycross Dates:
