SAVE THE DATE! SCCA FAMILY FRIENDLY SCAVENGER HUNT ON OCT 22!

A fun Susquehanna SCCA-sponsored scavenger hunt style Road Rally (think Lemons Rally…) will be held in the south-central PA region on October 22nd. There will be friends, food, fun, and of course shenanigans! Come in the morning for a Cars & Coffee event at Big Hill Ciderworks Taphouse (Gardners, PA) and meet the other competitors as well. Road Rally participants will then leave straight from the Cars & Coffee and compete in the Road Rally until mid-afternoon, when they return to Big Hill Ciderworks for a food truck, drinks, and awards! Award categories include: Most points, Most roadside attractions found, Most unnecessary horsepower, and Best team theme.

More information will be released in the coming weeks.

Volunteers Needed: Corvettes at Carlisle

By: Ed Jenks

Ciocca Corvette is giving us space in their tent at Corvettes at Carlisle, Aug 24, 25 & 26 7AM to 6PM. The Ciocca Corvette tent is space #1 right next to the GM tent.

There will be over 30,000 Corvette enthusiasts. That's 30,000 Sports Car enthusiasts. In my two years in the Corvette world, at the most I think only 10% knew what the SCCA is and few a clue of what we do. That means 27,000 are potential new members!

I'm looking for volunteers to work a shift at Corvettes at Carlisle. There will be two shifts a day, 7 or 8 to noon, noon to 6PM.

I can offer free entry to the event, a really cool t-shirt, a free AutoX pass for SJR, Philly and NNJ events, a discount to a Track Night in America.

If you’re able to volunteer, please email Ed Jenks or call at 484-919-1905.

Who Likes Doing Math?

(still not this editor)

YES, that is a serious question!…even for a racing club’s newsletter!

We're in need of 2-3 people to help us out for a couple of hours for a review of some of the region documents.  We'd like to find people who actually enjoy doing math (other than just me it seems) and/or have some accounting background.

If you're interested, please reach out to me at mmauro@scca-susq.com

Deadline Reminder: Region Development Grant

AUG 21, 2023 — Region leaders of the Sports Car Club of America® know how difficult it is to run a successful motorsports program. From facility rental, to marketing, to something seemingly as simple as supplying lunches to volunteers, the “to do” list goes on and on. And while Regions succeed on these event-to-event tasks, there’s always more that can be done to grow the program, especially if funding is available. Take, for example, Philadelphia Region – this Region was utilizing an aging facility for autocross events, schools, and Tire Rack Street Survival teen driving programs. With time, the location might have fallen into a state of disrepair, forcing the Region to abandon the facility. Instead, the local town and Philly Region put together a plan and raised $16,500 of the $19,000 needed for repairs. The SCCA Foundation stepped in with its Region Development Grant to close the gap, enabling the site to continue use for teen driver training, SCCA events, and other community events. This isn’t the only Region to benefit from the Foundation’s Region Development Grant, and your Region could be next if you have a project in mind – but you need to apply soon if your project is near, as the next deadline is not far off.

USRRC Registration Time Has Arrived

JUL 17, 2023 — We gave you the highlights just a few weeks ago, but now it’s time: United States RoadRally Challenge (USRRC) registration is open!

The USRRC is the crown jewel of SCCA®’s RoadRally program, mixing #funwithcars into a team sport that rewards accuracy and logic rather than outright speed. It also comes with a built-in set of like-minded enthusiasts, adding a social element unlike any other into the event.

Club Spec – Big Interest, Next Step: more questions

JUL 19, 2023 — Can you believe it’s been two months since we announced the concept of “Club Spec,” a concept that would enable members to buy one car and use it in every kind of SCCA® event? Soon thereafter, we landed on GRM Live with JG Pasterjak, explaining how Club Spec would enable drivers to compete in everything from SCCA Time Trials to Autocross and beyond. Along with that, we presented you with a survey to tell us whether you liked the concept at all – and if you did, which direction you thought Club Spec should travel. Well, you didn’t just answer the survey, you answered it in droves. In fact, with 5,100 people offering feedback (and 85 percent of those being interested in participating in multiple programs), we can’t recall a time when the membership response to a survey was so robust and enthusiastic. Based on your initial feedback – and with encouragement from the SCCA Board of Directors and all SCCA program boards – we’re asking for your help once more to ensure Club Spec gets shaped exactly right.

Seat Time Is Crucial for Speed – Even at Home

AUG 10, 2023 — Ask anyone with an ounce of experience what’s the biggest secret to speed, and they’ll tell you seat time. The more you’re behind the wheel at speed, the more comfortable you’ll be with the track, the car, the momentum – basically everything. We’ve heard it before: familiarity will give you confidence, and confidence gives you speed. But as your wallet will attest, you can’t be at the track every weekend, so the secret is to make that seat time not only affordable, but also convenient. For that, there are racing simulators.
