The teams drew 1-1 at full time and Ulster earned the bonus point by winning the shootouts 3-1. Well done, Ella! Form 2 Technology - Wood![]() I have been at The High School for over a year and a half and during that time I have learned many things in all of my subjects. In Wood Technology we made beautiful picture frames using plastic and pine wood. We leared how to bend and mould the plastic using heat. The project we made prior to this was a working clock. We decorated this piece using marquetry which is the art of cutting shapes out of paper thin strips of wood - known as veneers - and fitting them together - much like a puzzle - and glueing them together. I am very much looking forward to learning more skills this term. Form 1 Mathematics![]() We are currently learning about probability in Maths class. To explore this concept we had to create a spinner or dice that was either fair or unfair. It was so much fun and we learned a lot about probabilty along the way. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() CAO Portfolio DeadlineIt is a busy time of year in the Guidance Department at The High School. Our Form 6 pupils have availed themselves of the early online application to the CAO (Central Applications Office). Pupils are absorbed in gathering their research conducted in Form 5 and during this academic year, to help make informed choices on further education and training. Some of our pupils are applying to a restricted course and it is this time of year when they focus their attention on their Art portfolios, interview techniques, and preparation for the HPAT examination. The CAO deadline to apply for a restricted course is 1 February 2022 at 5.00 pm. All restricted courses must be included on pupils’ course choice list by this date. The Guidance Department are delighted to help three of our Form 6 pupils apply to university in the UK. Pupils are applying to study Psychology, English, and Classical Studies in universities across the UK such as St Andrew's University, University of Nottingham, King's College London, and Queen’s University Belfast. We wish these candidates the very best of luck with their UCAS applications. Junior Drama![]() Junior Drama takes place on Tuesdays after school in The Reynolds Hall. This year Form 4 pupils are helping Ms Browne run Junior Drama. Yesterday we had people from Forms 1-3 there and we completed mini-auditions. We had to perform a monologue/poem so that we could practise projecting our voices. Everyone did really well and it was lots of fun. ![]() ![]() ![]() Junior HockeyThe Junior B team had our second league match of the season against St Andrew's College early last Saturday morning. It was a tight game which we started very well resulting in a 1-0 win to The High School. We are now joint top of the league and have more league ![]() Junior RugbyThe junior girls' rugby team played a blitz against Mount Temple Comprehensive School and Loreto Dalkey at Clontarf Football Club recently in preparation for the first ever Junior Schoolgirls' Cup which starts on Wednesday 26 January. Both teams played incredibly well - improving with every game - and ultimately we won all our matches. The players are currently making every effort to train to the best of our ability in preparation for the start of the Cup. We are all really excited to represent The High School next Wednesday and we hope to do ourselves proud. Table TennisCongratulations to both our senior and junior boys teams who defeated St Benildus College 6-0 and 5-1 respectively. What a great result! Science Club![]() In Science Club recently pupils carried out an experiment with the unusual moniker, King Kong Hands, named after the giant gorilla film character of the same name. In the experiment sodium bicarbonate, a compound made up of the elements hydrogen, sodium, oxygen and carbon, is mixed with vinegar (ethanoic acid and water) to create a chemical reaction. The elements carbon and oxygen link together to make a new compound called carbon dioxide which fills the latex gloves creating large, King Kong hands. It was great fun. Remember, if you are interested in joining Science Club, please contact your Science teacher. Minor Hockey Win![]() Last weekend The High School Minor hockey team played against St Gerard’s School away. Unfortunately ten minutes into the game they scored but we equalised just before half time. The second half was very tough as both teams were equally matched in skill. We had many short corners towards the end of the match which they blocked. Then just before the end of the match we scored from a short corner leaving the final score 2-1 to The High School. Act of RemembranceThe High School held a minute's silence in memory of murdered school teacher Ashling Murphy. A group of pupils and staff gathered to light a candle in her memory. ![]() Dates for your Diary
