Welcome to the December edition of the Salamanca Market stallholder news ![]() Hi everyone, Welcome to the Christmas edition of the stallholder newsletter. With one more Saturday to go before Christmas, the market is certainly filling up and the atmosphere is very festive and positive. The Taste of Summer is continuing the setup at PW1 and across the lawns, and you should all be aware of the road closures and any changes to your usual set-up and pack-down routines. Although some of these festivals can be viewed as an inconvenience to stallholders, the market team works to ensure that any disruptions to the market are minimised. Our summer festivals bring a lot of people into Hobart and that results in people choosing to spend a Saturday in Hobart and visit us at the market as well. On behalf of our entire Salamanca Market crew and the staff here at the City of Hobart, we would like to thank you all for the amazing contribution you have made to the market during the past year. We hope you have some time to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. We would like to wish you all a prosperous, safe and happy New Year. Robert Matson - Manager City Welcome ![]() Christmas and summer Wrapping up Christmas Our Christmas promotion is going well and our social media advertising is working well in the background to help remind people that the market is the best place to buy Christmas gifts this year. We only have one more Saturday before Christmas, so it should be a bumper day for all. Santa will once again be at the market with free family photos. This was a huge hit with visitors at the market last weekend. Thank you to all stallholders who emailed through their Christmas gift ideas and we have been able to share many of these as social posts. It's not too late to share some Christmas gift ideas as we can easily add them to our gift guides on our website - but hurry! Summer promotion We are now looking to collate some ideas for enjoying summer and entertaining. This could be anything from sunhats, skincare, t-shirts, fresh produce, flowers, gins and liqueurs, summer books and reading. If anyone has any products that they would like us to promote, please send them through. ![]() SMSA committee congratulations The Salamanca Team meet with the Stallholders Association (SMSA) on a quarterly basis to discuss all things Salamanca Market. Recent agenda items included a draft memorandum of understanding to promote a strong and effective working relationship between the City and the SMSA, looking at the change of product line process and some background information about the City's tree maintenace program on Salamanca Place. A big congratulations to Nadia Calvert and Ted Chatain who have recently been elected as president and vice president of the association. We are looking forward to a productive year ahead. ![]() Rubbish Reminder Crew members have reported a spike in stallholders leaving plastic bags of unsorted waste at bin collection points. Please refer to page 13 of the Stallholder Handbook: Stallholders must sort all waste generated from their stalls into the appropriate waste streams. Under no circumstances should stallholders leave plastic garbage bags full of unsorted waste in the market area or next to any bins or contaminate any of the waste streams. Stallholders are required to follow the waste guidelines above and may be issued with an infringement notice for any breaches. This applies specifically to any trade waste includes fats and oils left in the market area. Also a reminder that several incidences of shoplifting have been reported in recent weeks. Please be vigilant, report incidences of stealing to police and the market supervisor. ![]() Market attendance The busiest time of year is upon us and this means that there are more stallholders trying to get a spot on market days. The waitlist is long, so please let us know if you can't make it!
