Opportunities
Applications for the 2025 Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship are open. The scholarship includes a two-year academic award of $9,500 per year and a 10-week, full-time, paid summer internship opportunity at any NOAA facility nationwide, and funding to present their NOAA research projects at two national scientific conferences. Open to sophomores. Danielle Losos's EVST '22 was a 2020 NOAA scholar and then worked for NOAA's GOES-R satellite program to improve data usability and develop novel cloud-based workflows for data analysis and visualization. She now is a researcher at UW-Madison mapping burned areas and photosynthesis from satellites.

Climate Innovation Grants | CBEY will award up to five seed grants from $500-3,000 to student teams bringing forward innovative ideas to mitigate, reverse, or adapt to climate change. Early-stage ideas/ventures and nonprofits are encouraged to apply. At least one current Yale student (undergraduate, graduate, professional or doctoral) must be involved in the team. Student Communications Assistant | The Carbon Containment Lab (CC Lab) is hiring a paid Student Assistant for fall 2024, to help us communicate the Lab’s mission of developing innovative approaches to carbon removal and emissions abatement. Research Position with Professor Benoit | This research project studies macroplastic litter and microplastics in the New Haven area. Team members will collect and characterize plastics in and between all urban environmental compartments including street margins, catch basins, bioswales, street sweeping, storm drains, streams, ponds, and eventual transport to Long Island Sound. Involves both field and lab work, and training will be provided as needed. Contact Professor Benoit.

The Dovciak Lab in Plant Ecology at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York, is seeking a MSc student to join the lab in January 2025. Tuition Waived/Stipend Provided. The research will contribute to understanding how environmental factors facilitate climate induced tree species migrations to cooler upslope refugia on mountains in four states of the northeastern United States (NY, VT, NH, ME). Applicants with a strong interest in plant and forest ecology, an ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and comfort working outdoors in variable weather and terrain are strongly encouraged to apply. The Center for California Studies Capital Fellows Information Session | Tuesday, September 17th from 4:00-5:00pm PT. The Capital Fellows Programs are nationally recognized public policy fellowships which offer unique experiences in policy-making and development in each branch of government. Capital Fellows spend 10-11 months as part of a cohort working in a Legislative, Executive or Judicial Branch office. Applicants need not be residents or have studied in California but should be able to demonstrate knowledge of and a commitment to public service and to California. This has been a great opportunity for EVST grads in the past, including Tien Tran EVST '19. Details and application here.
