Higher Education’s Role in Advancing Climate Justice DEIAJ ToolkitThe DEIAJ Toolkit was developed in partnership with Second Nature’s Climate Justice Working Group. The purpose of this Toolkit is to help colleges and universities center principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice (DEIAJ) into their climate action plans. OPPORTUNITIESOffsets Advisory CouncilSecond Nature is launching an Offsets Advisory Council to convene expertise within higher education concerning offsets and related topics. The group will continue and expand past work by Second Nature around the role of carbon pricing and offsets in sustainability pursuits, and explore current knowledge around offset project development, non-additional sequestration, monitoring, offset purchasing, and innovation within the carbon markets. The next meeting will be Feb 21st 3-4pm EST. Buddy Program Pilot between Agnes Scott and Bennett College to be launched Feb 9-10th! “This program seeks to champion interpersonal relationship building among peer institutions in the southeast in order to share best sustainability practices that can be scaled to fit the culture and capacity of each institution. Second Nature and Agnes Scott are invested in building an active long-standing relationship with Bennett College, in order to discover new and innovative ways to partner and support each other’s legacy and continued institutional growth in a variety of ways that move the needle on climate action.” Contact Blythe Coleman-Mumford to learn more. UNH Sustainability Fellowships pair exceptional seniors, recent grads or grad students from colleges and universities across the nation with host organizations to work on transformative sustainability initiatives. Each summer, Fellows undertake challenging sustainability projects that are designed to create an immediate impact, offer an extraordinary learning experience, and foster meaningful collaboration. He stated: "Caring for the environment and reducing waste remains a top priority for Bucknell - on both the individual and institutional level. ![]() ![]() Spelman College moves forward with plans to hire more sustainability focused staff and faculty! According to Facilities Director, Arthur Frazier, Sustainable Spelman Interns made a presentation to President, Dr. Helene Gayle Senior Leadership that included hiring a “Sustainability Officer.” Great steps forward, through incredible student leadership, faculty/staff cooperation, as well as support with notable ally, Agnes Scott College!
