No images? Click here Senior School NewsWe hope that you've all enjoyed a safe and relaxing Christmas and New Year break. The Christmas break is typically a time where our families enjoy time together but nonetheless some of our pupils have made us very proud with their achievements over the break! Leading the way was Archie of Hart House who broke his own men's British record for 100m Breaststroke in the heats and then broke it again in the final. He also achieved a personal best in the 50 m freestyle and came 5th in the final. In target sports, six pupils, including Head of School, Livi, have been selected for national squads and try-outs. Last, but not least, our 1st VII and U16A netball teams participated in a very successful pre-season tour. We're delighted to share with you the stories of two outstanding Sedberghian's. In our SEDTalks we interviewed Chiyo whose strong values, outstanding work ethic and firm academic plan are helping her to reach her ambitions in Year 11. Our second SEDTalks is with Old Sedberghian Clare - a final year medicine student. As part of our Pathways series of Presentations, Clare kindly spoke to our pupils about her path and what going in to medicine entails. It's been an exceptionally cold and snowy start to the New Year. The beautiful image at the top of our newsletter was captured by Mr Cooling earlier this week and gives you a glimpse of the stunning fells about Sedbergh. SEDTalks: Chiyo (Year 11) is Chasing Her Ambitions and a Place at UniversityNow in Year 11, Chiyo started at Sedbergh in Year 7 at Sedbergh Prep School (Casterton). Chiyo's successful start to Year 11 - and exemplary work ethic - was celebrated at the Commendation lunch held in Michaelmas term. Chiyo embodies all of our School values, but she identifies most strongly with ambition. 'Roadshow' Information Events Around the UKSedbergh School, Sedbergh Prep School and Sedbergh Courses are hosting a number of Information Evenings around the UK for prospective and current families, Old Sedberghians and our UK based agents/partners. These informal evenings are a great opportunity to engage with our Headmasters, Housemasters and mistresses, Admissions and our Summer Courses team. The next event is Royal Birkdale, on Thursday 25 January from 6.30pm. Registration is essential. Pathways SEDTalks: Old Sedberghian Clare Talks About Studying MedicineOn her pathway to medicine, Clare Carney, formerly of Robertson House (2002 – 2009), has taken the most-winding route possible. We were privileged to host Clare at Queens’ Hall for the very first in our series of 2024 Pathways talks to our pupils. Clare’s openness, relatability and facts-driven presentation kept our pupils spellbound; there were several invaluable lessons that she wanted to stress in her presentation. A Lasting Legacy, Michael Raw's New History of Sedbergh SchoolThe late Michael Raw, History Master 1984 – 2015, was commissioned before his death to write a new history of Sedbergh School as part of the 500 anniversary celebrations of the school. Michael rose to the challenge magnificently and was near competition of this scholarly and engaging project when he sadly died suddenly last May. Michael had been interviewed at Easter 2023 about the process of writing the book and which aspects of the history he most enjoyed. Here we share a few excerpts from that interview. NOTE: It was Michael Raw's wish that the book be used to raise funds for a Roger Lupton Scholarship. |
