Below is the March wrap-up of the most important UCON alerts, updates, and resources, along with upcoming opportunities for our members. UCON continues to fight to secure tax relief for our union contractors for the reinstated COVID Paid Leave cost impact. Please join the industry-wide call to action covered in the Political Advocacy section of
the report. Additionally, we’d like to highlight two outstanding event opportunities for our contractors in May: UCON’s Contractor-Agency Public Works Summit taking place May 11 in Long Beach, and UCON’s 2022 Legislative Summit taking place May 17 in Sacramento. - UCON Negotiations Prep - Southern CA Laborers & OE12. The UCON Craft Committees for both crafts met this week to begin planning for informal discussions in April. Proposals and strategy were discussed. Signatory contractor members are encouraged to participate. Contact Victor Sella.
- Contractor Input Needed For Laborers (Southern CA) & OE12 Negotiations Prep. The Craft Committees need to hear from you to help determine contractors’ negotiations priorities. Both surveys are available online and only take 2-3 minutes. – SCDCL Survey | OE12

UCON Achieves MOU Relief for New COVID-19 Paid Sick Leave Law. UCON has executed MOUs with most of our union partners statewide for relief on fringe benefits under SB 114. Our FAQ provides a chart that we continue to update. Contact UCON.
Tentative Agreement with Laborers (Northern CA) MLA. The UCON Laborers Negotiating Committee has reached a Tentative Settlement Agreement for a 2022-2027 extension to the Master Agreement. Details to follow once ratification is complete. Contact Victor Sella.
UCON Meeting with Carpenters (Northern CA). A meeting will be held on April 11 to review a Tentative Settlement Agreement for the MLA and discuss industry issues and outlook. Any Carpenters signatory contractor can attend. Contact Victor Sella.
Legislative & Political Advocacy
- UCON Fight to Secure Financial Relief for Costs of SPSL. United Contractors government relations team continues to meet with elected officials to secure financial relief for union-signatory contractors who have been unfairly impacted by the high costs of mandated COVID Paid Leave (SB114.) We encourage all contractors to contact your Assemblymember and State Senator and urge action

- Contractors Encouraged to Submit Written & Video Impact Statements. United Contractors is calling on contractors from across the industry to submit a 60 second video or written testimonial outlining the impact that the reinstated COVID Paid Leave has had on your business. It’s easier than it sounds and we need your voice. Contact Julie Hinge.
- UCON Legislative Committee Endorses Action on 2022 Legislation. UCON’s Legislative Committee met to review, discuss and approve positions on dozens of proposed state bills covering a broad range of industry topics. To learn more, contact Emily Cohen.
- Don’t Miss UCON’s 2022 Legislative Summit, May 17 in Sacramento. UCON’s 2022 Legislative Summit features an incredible line-up of speakers discussing the most pressing political issues facing our industry. The event is followed by a Legislative Reception. Contact Christine Traina.
- Join the next UCON Safety and Insurance Meeting. Join UCON for the Safety and Insurance meeting via Zoom on Wednesday, April 6, 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM for a presentation by Michael Heffernan, Alliant Insurance Services. Inc. and Dick Bass, Arthur J. - UCON 2022 Safety Awards. Submit your projects for the UCON Annual Safety Awards: Recognizing, Excellence, Awareness & Leadership. The R.E.A.L. Awards provides recognition and honors the safest companies in our industry. Submissions are extended to April 6, 2022. Make sure to click 'submit' to ensure your application is entered! UCON Announces Contractor-Public Works Agency Summit. UCON is excited to present our Contractor-Public Works Agency Summit taking place on May 11 in Long Beach. Hear from seven different Southern CA Public Agencies including LA Metro, Caltrans, MWD, LAWA, Metrolink, the Port of Long Beach, and the Port of LA, as well as the 2028 Olympics.

UCON College Scholarship Awards Open April 4. The application window to apply for a UCON scholarship award will open on Monday, April 4th. All UCON member affiliates (employees, spouses/registered domestic partners, and dependents) are eligible to apply, with any major. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
